Publisher's summary

The instant New York Times bestseller that BookTok is calling “absolutely A-M-A-Z-I-N-G” (@hollylovesbooks1519) and “impossible to put down” (@kurryreads), from the author of Local Woman Missing and Just the Nicest Couple

Everyone has secrets, but not everyone has remorse…

A terrible accident.

Meghan Michaels is trying to find balance between being a single mom and working full time as an ICU nurse, when a patient named Caitlin arrives in her ward with a traumatic brain injury. They say she jumped from a bridge and plunged over twenty feet to the train tracks below.

A shocking revelation.

When a witness comes forward with new details about Caitlin’s fall, it calls everything they know into question. Was a crime committed? Did someone actually push Caitlin, and if so, who... and why?

No one is safe.

Meghan lets herself get close to Caitlin until she’s deeply entangled in the mystery surrounding her. Only when it’s too late, does she realize that she and her daughter could be the next victims...

“A tense, compelling thriller with completely gasp-worthy twists.” —Nita Prose, #1 bestselling author of The Maid

The first real “shock” I’ve had in quite some time.

There are so many things I enjoyed about this thriller. There were moments where I genuinely felt chills down my spine and was sitting on the edge of my seat. The author really painted a picture like I was like watching a movie in my head. The characters are all dynamic with their fair share of both strengths and flaws, but nobody is who they seem to be. I went back and forth between loving, then hating, then loving the narrator. What I liked most about this book was the twist. Not only did it shock me, but the timing shocked me as well. It has been a long time since I had an OMG moment while reading a thriller. I am pretty good at predicting twists, but this one threw me a massive curve ball. I also love how realistic the storyline felt. All thrillers are a bit far fetched, but this one had many realistic and relevant themes—predators who stalk women while blending into society, the unpredictability of mental illness and suicide, the effect that divorce has on an entire family, how abuse victims all react different, the stress of working in the healthcare field, ect. I think I enjoyed this book as much as Mary Kubica’s other famous thriller, Local Woman Missing. It’s five stars from me.

Not my favorite

It was a bit too disjointed and predictable. I had it figured out early on. It felt like two different stories thrown together that made no sense being in the same book.

Not one of Mary Kubica's best

I was disappointed in this one. The main character was a little annoying and I wasn't sure what the main plot was supposed to be.

Excellent A+ review

I don’t have any suggestions that could have helped make this story have more twists & turns, exciting surprises.

Repetitive

Good storyline, but it was too tedious & repetitive. I about stopped listening because I was so tired of hearing the “what ifs” and predictions every time anything happened. Instead of wondering who’s behind the door & all the different reasons for it, how about she just answer it & find out?!

Perfect Summer Beach Read with LOTS of twists & turns

Wow… this book took me on quite the ride.😳 I think I actually have whiplash from all of the twists and turns. IMHO the PERFECT summer vaca read. It will keep you guessing and reading/ listening & devour any plans you have being social😂 In in the beginning, you think it’s a story about a nurse who’s got a little drama in her life and then -to add to the stress - she has to care for this woman who’s just apparently jumped off a bridge…you learn about her family (👀creepy AF) and your spidey senses start pricklin and it’s ON. GOOD LUCK getting anything done. 💯 ADD to your Summer TBR (my only critique is that the story goes between past & present and lot so it can get a little confusing… but it all makes sense in the end!)
