About this listen

An original new series, with heart-pounding suspense and surprising twists.

Meet Louie Thorne. They didn't kill her - and they'll soon regret it.

When DEA agent Jack Thorne's house is stormed by vengeful drug lords, both he and his wife are shot dead. Only his daughter Louie survives - by using a terrifying power that defies reason.

Piecing together a life in his absence, Louie embraces her gift and her rage under the force of a single need: revenge.

She will destroy the men that took her family. No matter the cost, no matter how many bullets, she won't stop until justice has been well and truly served.

Great characters and fantasy!

Shadows in the Water
(Shadows in the Water #1)
by Kory M. Shrum

A gal named Lou, as a young girl, has a fear of water. One day her mom leaves her in the bathtub to check the food bubbling on the stove. The girl disappears! She is found months later when someone is mowing their grass near their pool. She is sliced up, standing by the pool, and has deep gouge marks in her flesh.
Her father realizes that his sister was like this but he thought she was attention seeking and never believed her. Now he does. He plans to send the now 12 year old Lou to her aunt for the summer to learn to control it. But drug cartel members raid the place and kill her mom and dad. Her dad saved her by throwing her into the pool.
She is grown now and has learned all kinds of things, like multiple martial arts, shooting, and using this gift. She can use even darkness to trace. She knows where the creature lives that attacked her lives and she takes it drug dealers!
This is so good! Lots of great revenge, fantastic fantasy, creatures, characters, suspense and I enjoyed cheering for this serial killer!
Terrific narration!!!

How fun and exciting!

This book captures you from the very first page. Lou Thorne is just the killer hero you would expect from Kory's incredible store of characters. Each word was devoured with anticipation of the next twist. As for the performance, another success. Hollie Jackson gives even more depth to some unforgettable characters...I loved the humor during the interrogation scene...I laughed out loud.

All in all, a great listen. Going to be one return to. Can't wait to get the next book.

Very well wrote!!

We started reading this book for Book club. And while we were supposed to be reading something scary I wouldn't Necessarily say this was scary!
But it was mysterious! And it kept me on my toes about what would happen next!

The only thing I did not not like about this book was all the jumping around from one character to the next.

Wow! Different world for me!

Interesting concept. It took me a bit to get into and follow this story. After I did, wow! Craziness is the world of Louie. I would like to see more from this world!

would've been 5 stars except for the language

creative and fun. A great read! I hope there are more with these characters. The foul language doesn't add anything.

Absorbing.

What a read - the first time in ebook and the second time with Audible and Hollie Jackson narrating (great job with this, by the way). A lot of fascinating information from the first page to the last. A young girl, then woman, with an unusual power of moving from one place to another either through water or darkness - across the world or across the room. She has one goal: kill all the people responsible for her parents' deaths. Absorbed throughout, I encountered intriguing characters, an engrossing plot and a sort of whodunit full of world class criminals, thugs, despicable DEA agents and people full of honor. It is an urban fantasy with a paranormal twist. Fully satisfying.

Kory Shrum has done it again.

Lou's story is a real gift and I couldn't sleep until it was done. I've read the book several times, but the audiobook held a new range of voices in my head thanks to the amazing narration by Hollie Jackson. Following the creation of a demented murderer has been done before, but not like this. Making said murderer likable was the icing on the cake. If you're reading this review to decide if you should buy it, I would say you definitely should. who needs another beignet when you can enjoy such a well written and performed story.
