About this listen

You can't move to the next chapter of your life without tying up loose ends in the previous.

True crime blogger Erica Hart starts a new chapter in her life with a bang when a dark shadow darts into the mountain road to send her SUV off a cliff and to the bottom of Deep Creek Lake. Spencer’s newest addition to the police force Dusty O’Meara assumes it was a bear. Erica is not so sure.

Soon afterwards, contractors discover Konnor Langston’s body at the bottom of an abandoned swimming pool at the new summer home of Mac Faraday’s son.

With Police Chief David O’Callaghan away on paternity leave, Deputy Chief Dusty O’Meara must lead the investigation in his first murder case since moving to Spencer. Not only does Dusty have to work under the shadow of the legendary Mac Faraday but he also has to match wits with Erica, who is determined to find justice for Konnor, her childhood friend.

Mac isn’t so difficult. Even Gnarly, the town’s canine mayor, is manageable if his authority is well-respected and he is kept entertained.

Erica Hart, Dusty finds, is more of a challenge. It wouldn’t be so difficult if she wasn’t so irresistible.

another book w/striking details, awesome thrills

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK

Shadow of Murder by Lauren Carr is another book in the Mac Faraday Series. It is Book Number Fourteen in fact. Once you read one if Lauren’s cozy stories you gotta come back for more. As with all of the Faraday series, Shadow of Murder is filled with entertaining yet somewhat strange characters at times. And always my favorite is Gnarly, the interesting and smart K-9 belonging to Mac Faraday. I enjoyed yet another investigation with these guys and Gnarly, and look forward for more. If you love a good cozy mystery, try Shadow of Murder, you might love it as others do.

I so much enjoyed listening to the audio version of this book, though I’ll give a shout out for it’s unbelievable 17 hours long. But it’s a fun book full of so many twists and turns you head will be spinning as you try to figure out where the author is going with this new twist.

Mike Alger does another wonderful job with the narration. His voice is pleasant and I didn’t get tired of listening to him at all. I encourage you to pick up a copy of this audiobook and listen for yourself. Not use to listening to books? I wasn’t either but the more I listen to them the more I like it. Give this one a try. I think you will enjoy it.

A special thanks to the author/publisher for a copy of this book. I am not required to write a positive review, the opinions here are mine alone. I am disclosing this with my review in accordance with the Federal Trade Commission’s 16 CFR, Part 255.

A supernatural element adds to the intrigue

Shadow of Murder
A Mac Faraday Mystery #14
By Lauren Carr

Police Chief David O’Callaghan is out of town on paternity leave and in his absence, a murder and cold case are left to the capable hands of Mac Faraday, who is just back from a year abroad, and Deputy Police Chief Dusty O’Meara.

True crime blogger, Erica Hart has returned to Deep Creek Lake to call her old family home her current home. But nothing goes as it should, starting with a near-death accident. This allows the "Cold Case Diva" to meet Dusty, soon the two are working together to get answers as bodies start to pile up. Can they get the answers they need before the killer makes them the newest cold case in Spenser, Maryland?

Shadow of Murder has multiple layers that need to be peeled back. There are several obvious suspects but it all seems a little too obvious. Unless it isn't. And with each new twist, it will take everyone working together to get the answers they need if they want to bring a killer to justice.

Now everything isn't all serious as Triston Faraday is remodeling his newly purchased home and let's just say his hired help is of the less than stellar variety - Anything For Beer. And anyone knows if your "hired" help works for beer it might be a little on the questionable side of good. And then there is an unfortunate case of "estate borrowing" that may leave you with a flushing to your face.

Now I enjoyed this book in the audio format, which was narrated by Mike Alger. I found the narration to be well done, though I did play it back 1.4 times its normal playback speed. I listened to it at the pace I would have been reading it in print. At the default speed, this book comes in at approximately 17-1/2 hours of listening - perfect for a week of commuting, exercise, or chores.

No Mac Faraday book would be complete without Gnarly, and Spenser's canine mayor is present though in a limited capacity but enough to bring his unique charm to the book. But there is a new character who is sure to be a new favorite - Teddy who is a well-feathered individual who I'd love to have in more books.

This book has a bit of a difference from the other books in the series as there is a spiritual element throughout. Good vs Evil has taken up residence in Spenser and they have a fight for their lives on their hands in addition to their case.

I was provided a complimentary copy of this book with no expectations but that I provide my honest opinion, all thoughts expressed are my own.

Another Mac Faraday winner from Lauren Carr

Shadow of Murder is book fourteen of the Mac Faraday series from Lauren Carr.

This series just keeps getting better and better. Someday soon, I need to read them all in order.

I read the audiobook version of this tale and it was wonderful. The character representation and voice work of the narrator, Mike Alger fits perfectly for this story.

Lauren Carr weaves storylines together like no other author I’ve read. With a plethora of characters included in this tale, Mac and Gnarley are still my favorites. I did enjoy the newest residents of the town and the way they interacted with long-time faves.

There are many twists and turns throughout the story. I have to admit, I was a little surprised by most of them. This entry in the Mac Faraday series feels a bit darker but nevertheless, it’s still typical Lauren Carr gripping fiction.

I can’t wait to read the next in the series.

I received a digital download of the audiobook for a book blog tour. This review is my honest, unbiased opinion.

Murder Case with a Twist

I love the fact that mysteries are going on throughout the book. I enjoy that Erica and her friends seem to need to help the new local deputy chief. David gets some time with his wife and newborn. I recall David meeting a woman and a little boy I thought was introduced to him as his son?

Mac is pulled into a Chao once he returns from Europe with Archie. His son Tristain brings to life the disappearance of a missing person, a woman named Konnor Langston. Why did she disappear? It goes on from there. There are many mysteries and curses and stories of witches as the book goes on. I wonder who killed Erica's parents and why? Who taking advance of Larry? Why were Erica Hart's parents killed, and will Erica get justice for her childhood friend Konnor?

If you are looking for a good versus evil? This book has it. Once a dark shadow tries to harm Erica. Dusty seems to fall for a bird guiding him to help Erica. Will Erica and Dusty get together? There may be some romance for more than just two folks in the book. How will Dusty's father-law decide to find some love as well? There seems to be the talk of angels and demons? They're a bit supernatural in this book; that is a nice change to the story.

Great

Shadow of Murder (A Mac Faraday Mystery Book 14) by Lauren Carr was amazing! I can not believe that this series already has 14 books in it and that I have read them all! While it is truly hard to pick a favorite I have to say that this one is probably my favorite (so far). I liked seeing Deputy Chief Dusty O’Meara as the lead of the murder, especially since it was his first one to solve. I really liked the way he interacted with the different characters like Mac and Gnarly as well as the addition of blogger Erica Hart.
