I didn’t get it

I dug the fairytale mood, like someone telling scary stories by the fire. But, everything was vaguely told and I was lost as to the most basic things. For example, there’s talk of the goddess, hunting by bow, and villages … and then talk of machines, cities, and ambulances. Is this because there’s a time jump following the werewolf… or is this modern day urban fantasy in a town near a jungle? There’s random mentions of gnomes, gorillas and dolphins. And, something about flowers and magic that goes global…? The narrator gives great growls and snarls, though.
