About this listen

What do I want in a mate? Absolutely nothing.

Silas Jones has no interest in getting a mate, fated or otherwise. At 22, he’s alone in the world...or would be without the quirky pack of desert homesteaders who’ve become his family. Who needs more than that? Not Silas. Everyone else can partner up and risk loving the wrong person; he’s not judging. To each their own, but it’s not what he wants for himself. Ever. Nope, Silas is quite happy being a lone coyote. Maybe one day, it’ll stop feeling lonely in the wee hours. Or he could get a dog.

Daniel Atkins never planned to add stalking his fated mate to his to-do list. But what’s a guy to do when his fated mate takes one sniff in his direction and turns the other way? He’s dying to get all the info on Silas, see what makes him tick and figure out why his mate is so skittish. But first, he needs to get his inner beaver to calm down and stop demanding they keep eyes on their omega.

If Silas is in danger, Daniel needs to be on guard. Hmm... Is it really stalking if he’s keeping a protective watch?

Return to the hills above Cottonwood, Arizona, where every shifter has a bit of special magic and the pack of homesteaders, preppers, and loners who are a lot nosier about each other’s lives than they’d care to admit. Because, no matter their differences, pack means family.

This 31k novella is the second in this short-listen series. This world contains mpreg, but won’t have a birth in every book due to the short timelines. Be prepared for side-splitting laughs, a few tears, shifter-on-shifter violence, and a group of people who know that family always comes first. Also, all the feels you’d expect from a Susi Hawke original.

Silas and Daniel

Silas is more than a little damaged by his past and that past has convinced him that he doesn't want a mate. No way, no how. Daniel is not sure how to woo his recalcitrant mate so he turns to friends that know his mate best. I loved Daniel's persistence. There are a lot of laughs as these two have all our friends from book one, Settling the Alphas, interfering/helping them defeat evil, find love, and unearth undreamed of treasures.
Highly recommended author and series

Loved Daniel and Silas!

Silas is skittish to getting a mate. His father had killed his mom when her mate showed up. Daniel is new to town. He knows Silas is his mate. I loved how Daniel was patient with Silas! Lots of humor woven throughout the story! Drew Bacca does a great job with the narration.

Settle for Nothing

I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Review Copy of this book.

I had not read the first book in the series before listening to this one. I didn't feel lost, but I do think it would have been a little bit better if I had.

I could completely understand why Silas isn't interested in a fated mate. After what he saw as a child, that would give anyone some lingering issues. Daniel was so patient. Yes, he wants his mate, but he doesn't push too hard. He's not too domineering as an alpha, but still protective. Even for as short as this story is, there is a slow-burn feel to it. The narration had good pacing.

Silas & Daniel

Silas and Daniel may be fated mates, but after the tragedy Silas saw as a child he doesn’t believe in fated mates. No matter how much Silas tries to deny it, you can really feel their connection. Daniel is incredibly sweet and stands by patiently while really getting to know Silas and protecting him from the danger that has come back into his life. An overall sweet story that I really enjoyed with a wonderful narrator who enhances the story and the experience. I voluntarily reviewed a gifted copy of this audio book

A beaver and a wolf?

I have to admit when I first started to read this book I was skeptical about how a beaver shifter and a wolf shifter dynamic could work as fated mates. Silas is an omega wolf who wants absolutely nothing to do with a mate fated or otherwise. But when his fated Daniel comes into town even Silas becomes intrigued. Daniel Took the time to prove himself to Silas and show he wasn’t just going to push his way just by being his alpha mate. He took care of Silas - even when Silas didn’t want to be taken care of and was there when Silas really needed it. I loved this book because we saw old friends from book one give a comical dynamic to the book as well as watching an alpha take old-fashioned tactics to woo his mate. The narration was fantastic and the narrator had the perfect voice to keep you engaged.
