About this listen

An African coup may force Josh Duffy to choose between his mission and his family in this intense thriller from the #1 New York Times bestselling author of The Gray Man series.

Josh Duffy and his wife Nikki are both working for the State Department's Diplomatic Security Service providing protection for diplomats in the field. They've been sent to Ghana with a team of US embassy personnel who are there to highlight American commitment to the construction of a new dam.

Since Ghana is a stable democracy, the Duffy children have come along for a short vacation. But stability proves to be fleeting when a Chinese plan to embarrass the US means the destruction of the dam. Now Josh and his protectees are on the run, caught between a Chinese hit squad and a rebel army.

can't get past the narrator

I'm a big fan of the Green Man series and apparently bought this by mistake thinking it was one in the series. can't get past the narrator. their cadence and inflection is just not working for me. would try to get a refund on it if it wasn't such a pain in the ass

Excellently written. Wonderfully read. Perfect production of a great storyline in a worthy sequel to the first book.

Non-stop action!

Highly recommended. Another Mark Greaney masterpiece. I listened while driving and I was able to enjoy the story and not be stressed by the traffic.

Duffy and Super Dad!

Sentinel by Mark Greaney is an intense thriller that forces protagonist Josh Duffy to navigate a dangerous coup in Ghana, balancing his mission with the safety of his family. Josh and his family are working with and protecting diplomats in Ghana. What starts as a routine assignment quickly escalates when a plot threatens the dam, thrusting Josh into a perilous race for survival.

While the first quarter of the book is somewhat slow, reminiscent of the setup in Armored, it’s more engaging and sets a solid foundation for the explosive action that follows. Once the action begins, it doesn’t let up. Josh Duffy emerges as the hero, but the standout character is Issac, who proves to be much more than just a sidekick. The character development and their intense dedication shine through, only surpassed by the relentless action that Greaney masterfully writes.

Mark Greaney’s expertise in crafting thrilling action scenes and well-rounded characters is evident on every page of Sentinel. The blend of high-stakes drama and deep character connections makes this book a standout in the genre.

I wholeheartedly give Sentinel 5 stars for its riveting plot, well-developed characters, and nonstop action.

Excellent, compelling storyline.

A variety of characters and episodes with no ‘padding’ to increase the length. Greaney is one of the very best storytellers writing today.

Great follow up story for book 2

I was fully engaged in both books and once started could not put it down until it was complete. Saw other reviews about narrator and not sure why they are faulting him. I thought he did an excellent job of inflecting tones in his voice. I could hear the smile in his voice when a smile was needed, the little laughs and chuckles added to the overall banter between characters. He did an excellent job of telling a great story and bringing it to life. Can’t wait for the next episode of Duff.

What is going on with the narrator?

I’ve never left a written review and came here exclusively to see if other people were talking about it. This guy ending every sentence with a moaning whisper is unbearable. Story is good but this is the first audiobook I stopped listening to and finished the story with the printed version.
