About this listen
Every road away from her troubled past leads into the arms of a dangerous man.
After being abandoned by her lover and shunned by her family, Anna Jensen decides to make a new start in the rugged wilderness of the California mountains. But before she can reach her destination and begin her new life as a humble schoolteacher, she's captured by a brooding warrior known only as "Bear".
Her kidnapping wasn't entirely random, though. Bear is actually Nicholas Gaspard, the half-Indian son of the rich rancher who originally hired Anna. He intercepted her for what he believes to be a greater cause. Nicholas is a local hero, rescuing abandoned and abused local children, and he kidnapped Anna to educate them. Anna, furious at being tricked, initially resists. But sparks fly between the reluctant teacher and the complex man, revealing a reckless desire that cannot be tamed.

Story
When Robbie Fleming is evicted from her Edinburgh rooming house, she fears she'll have to live on the street. Penniless, orphaned, and on poor terms with her only relative - her fraternal twin sister, Birdie - Robbie has nobody to turn to. But then she receives a letter from Gavin Eliot, the man she has pined for since she was a girl. Although Gavin (and every other male within miles) seemed head over heels in love with flirty and vivacious Birdie, his letter holds a surprise: He wants to marry Robbie. Thrilled by the proposal and her change of luck, Robbie accepts, landing on his doorstep with little more than the clothes on her back. Bookish Gavin always has his head in the clouds. When Robbie shows up at his borderlands manor, he's astonished - he realizes he's unwittingly proposed to the wrong sister.

Why can't Audible get the genre correct?
It's not an occasional error .... frequently historical romances are classified as contemporary - like this one. This is an historical, western romance complete with a "school marm" heroine and a Native American hero. The story even opens with a stagecoach ride. I haven't encountered one of those on the freeway recently. Perhaps my definition of contemporary romance is flawed but in my opinion this story is most certainly historical!
