About this listen

It's no easy job being the town nutcase. Ella knows from experience. She's grown up in a quaint little place with people who pretend the extraordinary isn't happening around them. They ignore the bumps in the night and won't talk about doors closing by themselves or items moving mysteriously.

They also won't talk about the old woman who haunts the streets, long in her grave but for the nights when a particularly bad storm blows through. Those who do are fibbers, begging for attention.

But Ella knows it is no lie - when the lightning cracks and the rain thrashes, someone goes missing: a child, lost to the night. There is no breaking and entering, no foul play, and no clue as to where they've gone.

Urban legend says that if the old woman stops in front of your house, you're next.

Well, Ella has been next for years. She's resisted the urge to run out into the darkness with everything she has. She’s resisted that old mansion up on the hill, beckoning her. She’s resisted giving into people saying she's crazy.

But then a handsome new boy with a troubled past moves across the street. Suddenly Ella isn't the only one haunted by the old woman. But it's not clear if the new boy is here to help Ella...or help the woman drag Ella up to the mansion.

This Is A Winner!!!

This novel is one of KF Breene’s best. This storyline mixes urban legends of ghosts in a small town with plenty of action, mystery, suspense, and a touch of romance. Good narration.

Loved it!

I could listen to another 10 books with these characters and this narrator. This was a very entertaining story and not the same ol' same ol' of other books that have been boring me to tears lately. I will miss Ella and Brayden.

Scooby-Doo meets the Actual Paranormal

I'm a sucker for a haunted house story, and if you grew up on Scooby-Doo, like myself, then you're probably going to enjoy this book. Overall, I enjoyed this story but I would've loved if the plot progressively grew much darker and twisted throughout the entire book, ant not just at the end. I also feel that there were some parts of the book that didn't need to be as drawn out, because it felt as if the story was dragging. Despite all that, the characters were fun, well developed, and the story was interesting! I definitely will listen again!!!

A teens tale.

K. F. Breene is amongst my favourite authors and for that reason I bought this without hesitation. That being said this isn’t one of my favourites, being more a YA book, something that’s not obvious from the preview. Maybe it says it and I missed it, if that’s the intended audience then it’s probably fine, but lightweight after reading other of authors novels.

Great suspense, mystery, thriller!

I really enjoyed this book! Poole really brings it all to life! It’s filled with paranormal suspense and a few laughs with the banter between Ella and her bestie Scarlet. Classic K. F. Breene humor. The storyline held throughout, mystery surrounding the mansion and its lore, the missing kids, and all over activity within the town of Larkin. Definitely worth the read.

Scary, Ghostly Fun!

Remember the the ghost stories told around a campfire? Remember the scary thrill you experienced listening to them? You get that and more with this book. All the best parts of ghost stories and a novel come together here. You can enjoy this book as an adult and with the tween/teens in your life(as long as a malevolent spirit & it's actions won't scare them too much). The narration is great! Must read!

another winner from K.F. Breene

story is delightful with thoroughly enjoyable characters and the plot not see-through like so many others. the wit is spot on. the genre isn't what I normally go for, but when I saw it was by Breene I had to grab it up. Obviously I was not disappointed.

this is also done beautifully by the narrator, who is among my top three narrators, if not the number one. she has a great range of voices and does right by the characters' personalities.
