More romance than the first book

This book was. continuation of the series and focused more on the relationship between the h and H than the first book. I did want to shake both the H and the h for their stubbornness. There was some action and mystery which although I didn't know the exact perpetrator, I could see coming a mile away.

still not a fan of mack

I think it was unfair of Chris to press his suit with Mack. Drew had too many things to juggle to deal with Mack and her mystery. I was disappointed in Mack not confronting issues with Drew sooner. The lack of openess and honesty was killing me. I think Chris or Jose had a duty to tell Drew the truth when they were aware of it, since Mack was too weak to be honest. Imo, Chris was selfish and devious with the secret and telling Mack , Drew wouldn't be coming back . Smh. Mack moved on too fast with Chris. I'm not a fan of cheaters, and I consider her one.She had a phone and info Drew needed!!! She was so mean and confrontational, and you can't blame so much ugliness on her hormones. That's her true nature!!!! Grrr... Grow up girl! Drew was a saint to put up with all her crap. His intuition saved her life!!!! She owes him everything!! I voluntarily listened to a free copy of this and am giving an honest review. The narrator did a good job bringing it to life.

Captivating Story & Awesome Sequel! Great 🎧📚🎧 Listen

Mack and Drew’s story continues in this awesome sequel to “Second Shield” and Stacy Eaton does not disappoint one bit. With the investigation over and the bad apples removed Drew went back to his family on the west coast, his plans are pending, he wants a life with Mack but his life is complicated. Mack is promoted to Supervisor and is running the Unit, after the whole ordeal with the corruption in the squad she became good friends with Jose and his wife Tina. The squad are investigating homicides and it appears they have a serial killer on their hands. The Feds are also involved and Chris comes in to share some info. Mack has a surprise for Drew but he has a lot on his plate with the mother of his children he winds up pushing her away before she gets to tell him. Chris takes advantage of this and is by Mack’s side in a more personal manner and even knowing Mack is in love with Drew he would like to take their relationship even further. Mack has decisions to make but when Drew shows back up in her life she questions what she really wants. I love how everything plays out in this book, also love how Ms. Eaton includes and masters several genres in one novel, the story is cleverly plotted with plenty of drama, a touch of angst, mystery, action, thrilling suspense, heartfelt and emotional moments and a wonderful romance.

🎧📚🎧 And for the fabulous narration, Haven R. Powers continues to do a great job portraying the characters, bringing them to life, humanizing them giving each their own voice and personality. She was great with Jose’s accent and played Mack’s role with perfection. She continues to set the perfect tone for the story, captures the drama of the story, as well as all the character’s emotions which is heard in her performance. She is an entertaining storyteller and a pleasure to listen to. Thank you for the great listen🎧

Interesting!

I'm a few chapters into part 2 of Second Shield and I've had it with Drew and his selfish behavior. Yes, the mother of his children is dying, but he "needs time" away from Mack because he's guilty for feeling something for her when his beloved "friend" is dying. He's not only a wuss, but a bully to Anabelle, fairly yelling at her not to give up and try anything to stay alive. She wants to let go and not have to fight the cancer anymore, but Drew refuses. He hasn't bothered to call or text Mack for months, so I'm done with him. Even if he somehow shapes up, I don't believe that Mack and Drew can find a HEA. But I kept going, hoping it would get better and I have to admit that there were parts of the stories that get better and more intense, but the majority of this book has Drew hovering over Ana as she slowly dies, refusing to talk to Mack because it wouldn't be fair to Anabelle. By the time Drew returns to Mack, she has started to move on with Drew's FBI colleague, Chris, and he is the one I truly hoped would be her endgame. So, Drew does come back and it takes Mack a short while to accept him back into her life. Even though she's carrying his twins, she's still not sure that he cares about her enough to reconnect. I guess the way that the ending played out was fine, but I was hoping for more, an extended epilogue that takes this family a little bit more into their future. The narration was very well done by Haven R. Powers. Her dynamic, well-modulated and -inflected voice brought each of the characters to life with a unique attitude and personality.

Mack and drew or mack and Chris ???

Either way I would of enjoyed her ending up with either of them :).

I enjoyed the story line, à continuation of the first book.

The narrator was good but I still found her choppy at times or stilted might be more accurate, but for the most part she did à good job with the characters.

Drew & Mack!

Stacy Eaton treats us to the sequel of her Second Sheild story and keeps us on the edge til the very end. This picks up where book 1 left off. Drew is back on the west coast with his kids and their dying mother. Unable to process all the emotions he is feeling, he finds himself drifting from Mack. Mack is dealing with her own life. 40, pregnant and alone, she is dealing with it the best she can. She has the shoulder of Chris to lean on, and his strength is helping her get through. There is a serial killer on the loose too, and trying to piece the clues together is proving difficult. When Drew returns and wants his life back, finds Drew and the threat that the killer can bring to her, all bets are off. Will she take him back? Will she want to be with Chris? Or will the killer take all the decisions away? Eaton keeps the emotions high in this one. The kids play a big role and they are adorable. I love that Eaton brings her law enforcement experience and theories into the story. The serial killer is original and so realistic it’s scary! The best kind of romantic suspense and the ending is priceless!

Haven R Powers finishes the series with an enjoyable narration. I did find it difficult at times to distinguish who was speaking, but the suspense was high and emotions perfectly executed. I enjoyed the story.
