Publisher's summary

I lost everything.
My job. My family. My life…my sanity.
How does a man recover from that? How do you right so many wrongs when your choices have inflicted so much pain on those you love?
In my determination to prove my strength and unbreakable spirit, I tore my family apart. By refusing the help I desperately needed, I caused irreparable damage to the people I cared about most.
I never expected life to offer me a second chance. But then I met Courtney—a beautiful woman with a troubled past and scars that mirror my own. Somehow, she managed to breathe new life into my soul.
Now, I dare to hope that this might be my opportunity to make things right.

Real Life scenario

I enjoyed this narrator, easy to listen to and clearly differentiated between characters.

The story was incredibly sad, relatable and well written. Character feelings can be deeply felt. The writing makes it easy to empathize with the characters, main and secondary. The end was gut-wretching. I listened to the whole story in two bouts of listening, could have listened straight through if life didn't get in the way 😉.

This book left me filled with angst, heartbreak, and tears, especially through the emotional journey of the FMC, Courtney. Zachery, an ex-military man with severe PTSD, is ordered into therapy while going through a painful divorce. His traumatic childhood, war experiences, and perception of the world’s injustices cause him to lash out at those closest to him.

During his therapy sessions, he meets Courtney, and he is inexplicably drawn to her. She provides him a rare sense of calm amidst the chaos in his life. Their relationship, however, doesn’t follow the traditional happy ending we often see in romances. Instead, it’s a deeply introspective and emotional journey of self-reflection, growth, and healing from traumatic scars.

To be honest, the first few chapters were almost too much for me due to their intense and graphic nature. I nearly stopped listening, but I’m so glad I pushed through. The story was captivating, and the depth of emotions had me in tears multiple times. Frances Paul masterfully portrayed the rawness of trauma, healing, and what it means to find peace in an unconventional way.

A beautifully crafted story

Sea of Scars by Frances Paul

I received a free copy of this story by the author and here is my review.

Where oh where do I begin. Frances Paul did an amazing job with this story. Make sure you have your tissues ready. I went into this book knowing there were triggers and knowing it was going to be an emotional roller coaster. Courtney and Zachary have such a unique situation. From their first encounter and throughout the entire story they shared such a strong bond with each other. Courtney is looking for a fresh start and she unexpectedly meets and falls in love with Zachary, who has his own issues and demons that he is fighting. My heart for these two was so hopeful throughout the entire story. I don’t want to give away too much but I definitely recommend reading this gem. A solid 5 star read⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
