About this listen
Leaving behind her forensic pathology practice in South Carolina, Kay Scarpetta takes up an assignment in New York City, where the NYPD has asked her to examine an injured patient in a psychiatric ward. The handcuffed and chained patient, Oscar Bane, has specifically asked for her, and he begins to talk. He says his injuries were sustained in the course of a murder...that he did not commit. Is Bane a criminally insane stalker who has fixed on Scarpetta? Or is his paranoid tale true, and it is he who is being spied on, followed and stalked by the actual killer? The only thing Scarpetta knows for certain is that a woman has been tortured and murdered - and that more violent deaths will follow....

Boring and laborious.
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?
Nothing. I loved Patricia Cornwell's earlier books but she has literally lost the plot.
What could Patricia Cornwell have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?
See previous comments.
Would you be willing to try another one of Lorelei King’s performances?
Sure, I didn't object to the narration.
If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Scarpetta?
I wouldn't have published it!

Disconnected story read too fast
I found this story was convoluted with the characters not established well enough to be real. The reader gave the impression that she wanted to finished it quickly as she was bored and wanted to go home! Very unsatisfying and it had me wishing it was over quickly too!
