About this listen

All children's book illustrator Claire Turner ever wanted was to be a mother. After six years of trying to conceive, she and her husband, Josh, have finally accepted that she will never be pregnant with a child of their own.

Yet once they give up hope, the couple gets the miracle they've been waiting for. For the first few months of her pregnancy, Claire and Josh are living on cloud nine. But when she begins to experience debilitating headaches, blurred vision, and even fainting spells, the soon-to-be mother goes to the doctor and receives a terrifying diagnosis. Since any treatment could put their unborn baby's life at risk, the Turners must carefully weigh their limited options. And as her symptoms worsen, Claire will have to make an impossible decision: Save her own life, or save her child's?

It took me to the end of the story to discover why the title is Saving Abby. Throughout the story you learn about the life that Abby's parents lived through. It was beautiful and tragic but the love woven throughout the story was well written. I am glad that Claire and her mother reconciled before the end of the story. This is well worth the listen.

Beautiful Story

Yes. It was a good story and listening again may bring to mind things I missed the first time around.

Loved the book but hated the ending. I didn't want Clair to die! she needed to live and raise her daughter.

Spoilers...I enjoyed the overall story. The subject was touching. However, the ending was way too abrupt.
The narration was excellent. Parts of the story just weren't plausible: Claire's best friend was her doctor? This wouldn't happen as it would be a conflict of interest. That same friend promising she was going to live, no way would a doctor promise that.
Claire's mother has info on Claire's son who was given up for adoption, (just in case and for whenever Claire was ready for it?) yet whenever Claire would try to bring up the subject, her mother refused to speak of it. This made NO sense to me and was totally contradictory.
I felt more attention should have been devoted to the ending as it was a let down and anticlimactic.

Pretty good story...

I found the story to be maudlin and contrived. Reader does an okay job of voicing it, but my gag reflex prevented me from enjoying it, over all. I prefer a writer who is more spare and concise with her/his words

Overly sentimental and unrealistic

What made the experience of listening to Saving Abby the most enjoyable?

The fact her husband stood by her and her Dr. then she prepared a book for the baby after she felt she wouldn't be there for the baby herself.

What other book might you compare Saving Abby to and why?

I've never read a book so enjoyable with so much detail.

What about Angela Dawe’s performance did you like?

She went into detail about everything, the tumor, headaches, how to relax, how the town felt about her & her husband.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes it was

Any additional comments?

It brought tears to my eyes that Clare died in childbirth. But the relationship between the daughter and father is going to be so sweet.

This book was outstanding, couldn't stop listening

I’m writing this with tears in my eyes as I have just completed the book. The storyline is so honest and I enjoy that. The narration in great as well.

Honest and raw. This book doesn’t hide ‘real’.
