The Guard gets it done

I love Dan Abnettes way of worrying because it all plays out like a movie. I really liked The Deep short story, three tunneling aspect was really interesting and was peak 40k writing, along with ship master Spika making ship combat sound equally brutal with the way he describes how he feels what the ship feels during combat

Sabbat War Anthology

Most BL anthologies are usually a mixture of the good, the bad and the indifferent, this book is neither bad nor indifferent. It is another exciting adventure through a well versed set of stories set in a familiar universe. Each story is full of new voices, perspectives and theatre of combat.

Perfect ending to an amazing series.

For Bragg, Corbec, Caffran, Ezra ap Niht, Colia and all the rest… Remember Tanith. First and Only.

It was all for nothing

This is a spoiler for the story “Death of a Prophet” and also for the end of the series. In the last book of the series Anakwanar Sek is finally killed, and the Sabbat war finally draws to a close. Characters in the book even say as much, but with the addition of Death of a Prophet it makes it all for nothing. They bring back a new “Sek” making the entire series seem so meaningless. It just doesn’t sit right with me to have the series end on such a monumental victory for it to all be for nothing because of one story. The stories themselves aren’t badly written at all, but the inclusion of this one just left a sour taste in my mouth.

Good collection

Really enjoyed these stories. As someone who's been following the Gaunts Ghosts stories since I was a kid there were a lot of really good points. I highly recommend for any fan.

Not a bad one in the bunch.

All good. So many great writers. John French. Rachel Harrison. Abnett of course. McNeil. All of them. Some horrifying stories. Some heroic. All compelling.

Amazing Anthology

I missed the GG series after finishing Anarch, this was an excellent way to wrap up the series as it is. The stories range from great to excellent, and it ends strongest with a story about Milo, who I had felt didn’t get enough written about him in the end. Hopefully more GG stuff comes out in the future.
