About this listen

Twenty years ago, a young cop named Jacqueline "Jack" Daniels arrested one of the most sadistic killers she'd ever encountered. She has since retired from the Chicago Police Department in order to raise her toddler daughter.

But old grudges never die. They fester until the right opportunity comes along.

While on vacation in the Wisconsin north woods, Jack learns - too late - that her old adversary is out of prison. He has revenge on his mind. And he's bringing an army with him.

Outnumbered, outgunned, and cut off from the outside world, Jack Daniels is about to learn the meaning of last stand.

This is the ninth Jack Daniels novel, after Stirred. More than one million Jack Daniels novels have been sold worldwide.

That which does not kill you, keeps trying....

Not the best narrators.

the narration with just male voices isn't working, especially as gruff as one was all the time.

Story idea is good

Premise of the book is good. Also am into the sense of humor. A but preachy at times howeverrrrr if you ever wonder if the author of your books is a di** when it comes to political and social Justice - this book makes it quite clear that J.A. Konrath is on the right side of history.
Onto his next book.

Not the best

This one was disappointing, the narration was not great this time. Hope it gets better than this one.

Another great installment

J. A. Konrath has crafted another great book in the Jack Daniels series. I always look forward to every installment and purchase it as soon as it’s available on Audible.

Didn’t care for Narrator

When you listen to audiobooks, especially a series and get used to the voices of the characters, it sucks when the author changes that. Especially on this book where the author solely did it because of a fan crush! I cringed during all the “love”scenes being read by some guy trying to be a woman! I am reading the next book so I know how it end with Donaldson and Lucy but after that peace out JA!

Uneventful

I guess because of the first several books having different voices for the characters, it makes it hard to listen to this one.

ridiculous

ugh, where do I begin... there's nothing more pathetic than a suburban white man attempting to write about inner city blacks. I take that back, there's nothing worse than a white guy acting out the roles of poorly written inner city black dialect. Also towing a tank with a winnebago? how did that work? with a flatbed? and parrots... they dont learn new words that fast. I like this guys earlier writing but it seems like as the storyline progresses, he's just phoning it in. I mean no research whatsoever. just disappointed. I miss the writing from code name Chandler.

Don’t waste your time or money

After listening to the audiobook of “Stirred” I was excited for the next installment of Jack Daniels and her “boys.”

It’s now obvious that J Konrath had a LOT of help from his co-author on Stirred because “Rum Runner” was just plain terrible. There was no consistency with characters from the last book to the point where not a single one of them was likable. The gangbangers are portrayed as racist stereotypes and again, I couldn’t enjoy any one of them as characters.

The storyline was improbable at best and ridiculous for the remainder with pages upon pages of wasted arguments between characters, not to mention entire chapters that did nothing to enhance the plot.

The audiobook narration is abysmal with no sense of pacing and either overacting or under acting when it came to the characters - if the bad writing doesn’t make you hate every one of them just wait until you have to hear them - and for the love of all that is holy please learn to correctly pronounce “incongruous.”

Honestly, who did these two (narrator and author) have to bribe to get this trash published? I want my money back.
