About the Creator- Drew Hayes

About the Creator

Drew Hayes is an author from Texas who has written several books and found the gumption to publish a few (so far). He graduated from Texas Tech with a B.A. in English, because evidently he's not familiar with what the term “employable” means. Drew has been called one of the most profound, prolific, and talented authors of his generation, but a table full of drunks will say almost anything when offered a round of free shots. Drew feels kind of like a D-bag writing about himself in the third person like this. He does appreciate that you're still reading, though.
Drew would like to sit down and have a beer with you. Or a cocktail. He's not here to judge your preferences. Drew is terrible at being serious, and has no real idea what a snippet biography is meant to convey anyway. Drew thinks you are awesome just the way you are. That part, he meant. Drew is off to go high-five random people, because who doesn't love a good high-five? No one, that's who.

About the Performer

Amy Landon hails from a small town in Idaho. She fell in love with Shakespeare in 5th grade and continues a life-long love affair with language. She has pursued her craft on both sides of the country and a number of places in between.
She stays true to her roots in the Rockies by climbing mountains around the world. She has stood atop Kilimanjaro, at the base of Everest, along the high ridges of the Andes, crossed the Grand Canyon and danced at the base of Mont Blanc in the Swiss Alps.
She currently abides in Los Angeles with her cat Juniper, many plants and her beloved Harley. She narrates audiobooks and continues to act on the stage and in front of the camera. She continues to follow her dreams of taking over the universe, circling the globe on two wheels and trying to bake the perfect biscuit.

Interesting start to a new story.

I like the start of the story and I am looking forward to hearing more. I did not really like the narrator though. I found here tempo and tone irritating.

Never thought I’d see “Drew Hayes” and “family friendly together

This book is great. I had a blast listening to it and can’t wait for my 10 year old son to read or listen to it once he gets home from school today.

In true Drew fashion it takes place in an interesting world that I am now dying to learn more about.

Fun Romp Into a New World

Really my only complaint is that it was too short! The characters were engaging and I can't wait to hear more about the new ones from the epilog.

Heartwarming surprise

Initially I was hoping this would be similar to superpowereds, but was delightfully surprised to find myself in a completely different world. The story is full of imagination and charm often found in Drew Hayes writing. Looking forward to seeing more development in this world he’s created. Wanda and Wumble are such a wonderful pair. <3

YA that's still interesting for OA

I've long since graduated from a Young Adult to an Old Adult and I find that I've lost interest in the same old tropes of YA fiction. I picked up this one because I've liked other Drew Hayes books and a super dog sounded interesting. I was pleased to find that not only does it have the optimistic feeling I like in YA, but it does so while not treating the reader like they're dumb. There were intriguing glimpses into the world that kept me curious and excited to see what comes next.

It’s a good novella, but not a novel

The quality of Hayes writing is terrific as always. But it’s very short, just the beginning of a story. It seems like this is the first entry of a novel that was split into novellas. I’m looking forward to reading the other novellas, but going from the epics of Super Powereds to this leaves me feeling like it’s missing a lot.

Excellent introduction to a new series

Book/Story
I have read/listened to several stories by the author Drew Hayes. He is a talented writer, and this story does not disappoint. This is a short introduction to a new series geared more toward a general fantasy audience than solely adult readers. As such, there are no adult themes or foul language, not that the author’s previous works were very blue anyway. This piece is also episodic, and my understanding is that additional stories will be released regularly as a serial. I very much enjoyed the story, and I look forward to reading more as the author releases future installments.

Audio
The narrator, Amy Landon, is top notch. I have previously listened to her narrate another work by the author, Forging Hephaestus, a superhero story with a female main character. Due to my prior experience with the narrator, it took me a short time into this story to adjust and associate the narrator with the new story instead of the prior one I listened to. However, the adjustment was short lived, and after only a few minutes I had no problems. The narrator does an excellent job of voicing different characters, and is able to utilize an excellent tenor for male characters. I have found some female narrators struggle voicing male dialogue, but Amy Landon does this quite well. I am excited to listen to future installments voiced by this narrator.

Length/Price
This story is quite short by audiobook standards. It is particularly short in comparison with the author’s other works which are commonly over 20 hours. This story clocks between 3-4 hours which may seem like a poor use of an audible credit. However, I bought the book for the cash price, which at the time of my purchase was less than $5.00. This put the audiobook at far less than a typical movie ticket and it provided considerably more entertainment than many films that I have watched. If considering purchasing, I would recommend paying cash instead of using a credit.
