About this listen
But Right from the Beginning is more than a personal memoir, it is the sometimes hilarious, sometimes sad, poignant, and moving story of the Buchanan family; a book that brings alive again America in the forties and fifties, when "the faith was unquestioned and patriotism unconstrained".

Story
American Empire is at its apex. We are the sole superpower, with no potential challenger for a generation. We can reach any point on the globe with our cruise missiles and smart bombs, and our culture penetrates every nook and cranny of the global village. Yet our beloved America is now reviled abroad, dictated to by arrogant judges at home, overrun by special interests, and buried beneath a mountain of debt.

Story
Since Obama took office, conservative pundits have been mainstays on the best-seller list. And now, the best-selling author and political legend Pat Buchanan weighs in with a warning against not only the dangers that the country faces under Obama, but the risk of sliding into irrelevancy that the Republican party faces if it chooses to forget its core values. As he shows in this incisive book, liberal policy-making and unhindered globalization have eroded America’s economic strength.

Story
After suffering stinging defeats in the 1960 presidential election against John F. Kennedy, and in the 1962 California gubernatorial election, Nixon's career was declared dead by Washington press and politicians alike. Yet on January 20, 1969, just six years after he had said his political life was over, Nixon would stand taking the oath of office as 37th President of the United States. How did Richard Nixon resurrect a ruined career and reunite a shattered and fractured Republican Party to capture the White House?

Pat Buchanan is sounding the alarm. Since 9/11, more than four million illegal immigrants have crossed our borders, and there are more coming every day. Our leaders in Washington lack the political will to uphold the rule of law. The Melting Pot is broken beyond repair, and the future of our nation is at stake.

Story
All but predicting the September 11 attacks, Pat Buchanan warns that America is inviting terrorist attacks and conflict by engaging in an interventionist foreign policy that is costly, dangerous, and does not serve our own interests. Anyone who has caught Pat Buchanan's television appearances, or heard his campaign rhetoric, will be surprised at his relatively evenhanded and thoughtful tone as he writes - often quite persuasively - in favor of the restoration of the political, military, and economic independence that largely drove U.S. foreign policy in the 19th century.

a true legend
Our leadership on the right are more so right wing liberals versus conservatives, hearing about the conservatism in that era was great.
I feel like they should be a movie about his upbringing; especially the way he related the structure of his household to legal/political system, that was hilarious.
overall it was a great book and I can't wait to start Republic not an Empire

Great story telling.
It's amazing how much things have changed since this was written. I enjoyed all the stories of youth and who would have guessed having only seen Pat in later life.

Great book. Horrible reader.
The reader's incessant inhalation drove me crazy. Surely there's a way to filter that out. Made it difficult to finish, much less enjoy. Also, the pitch of his voice and speed of reading was aggravating. Nonetheless, I'm a huge fan of Pat's and interested in hearing his life story, which I enjoyed very much.

Fantastic book, terrible narration
I've read this book a dozen times and thought it would be fun to be able to listen to on drives. I was incorrect. The narration was terrible. It sounded like it was read by a computer, which was annoying at best. Words were mispronounced, and there was absolutely no emotion, save for a few strained moments, in the narration. Buy the print version instead.
