In 1836, when she was nine years old, Cynthia Ann Parker was kidnapped by Comanche Indians. This is the story of how she grew up with them, mastered their ways, married one of their leaders, and became, in every way, a Comanche woman. It is also the story of a proud and innocent people whose lives pulsed with the very heartbeat of the land. It is the story of a way of life that is gone forever.

I listened slowly to the audible version of this epic western story. The personal battles of Comanche against the immigration of Texas pioneers. The story is based in the remarkable research of Lucia Robson. The book starts from the beginning of small settlements that brought horses and pots, and children to the people. Cynthia Ann Parker (Nauduah) was 6 years old when she was kidnapped in a violet raid against the Parker fort at the edge of the settlements. She was captured by Wanderer, a brave who had promised his family that he would bring a child to replace a child who died in another raid. Their long lives showed the changes of the Comanche people as the Texan population bloomed on the plains. They find power, love and family in their remarkable tale. They fought against the raids of Kiowa, Caddo, Wichita, Tonkawa, Kichiwa, Karankawa, and Texas Rangers. They battled the elements, and raids or American soldiers. Their historic lives inspired Quanah Parker a renown Comanche warrior that held out against the Texas expansion, and the violence of the Western Movement.
Lucia Robson is a remarkable researcher, but that is nothing compared to her ability to write the history she researches. Ride the Wind, takes the reader to the staked plains of Texas, at the end of the Indian wars. Showing the pride of the people, their ability to adapt and thrive in hostile environment of the broad Texas plains. She shows the remarkable change of Western settlement to the native tribes, how hunger, winter and draught caused the last of the Comanche to reservations and the struggle with the white men.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Couldn't read it fast enough. Each chapter left me wanting more. I felt like I was living alongside each character and felt their pain, joy, and sorrow. I whole heartedly recommend this book, it is a must read. Would love to see it played out on the "big" screen. What was one of the most memorable moments of Ride the Wind?
When Wanderer and Cynthia finally displayed their love for each other. What does Laurie Klein bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
Laurie is fantastic. Her voice brought the characters to life. She is so good you can actually tell the characters apart when they are having a conversation. One of the best readers I have heard. If you could take any character from Ride the Wind out to dinner, who would it be and why?
Wanderer. I would love to hear more about the indian way of life. They did not have it easy. He not only was a warrior but a compasonate caring person when he needed to be.Any additional comments?
Just get the book. You will not be disappointed.Held spellbound!
