Publisher's summary

Elizabeth Bennet's father, Admiral Thomas Bennet, assures his daughters his retirement from His Majesty's Navy will be the start of a new life for them all. Little does he know his family's battles have only just begun.

Well connected and in possession of a good fortune, their entry into society should have been a triumph. However their long-awaited first season in London proves a disaster, and the resulting scandal sends the Bennets fleeing to the wilds of Derbyshire.

Widower Fitzwilliam Darcy, the master of Pemberley, wants for nothing, most especially not a wife. From the moment the Bennets arrive in Derbyshire, Darcy's neatly ordered life turns upside down. His sons beg to keep company with his new playmates, the young Bennet twins. His mother-in-law sets her cap for Admiral Bennet. Worst of all Darcy cannot get his mind off a certain bewitching Miss Elizabeth Bennet, but she has sworn never to let another gentleman near her heart.

Darcy's best efforts to befriend and assist the Bennet family go horribly awry, alienating first Miss Elizabeth and then her father and finally endangering what both men hold most dear. Can the two men Elizabeth loves most set aside their pride to prevent catastrophe for their families and win the love they seek?

Enjoyed this one

Finally one where Catherine is a decent person...I enjoyed this alternate story and the new characters.

Thoroughly Enjoyable

This was such I delightful P&P variation -- I have no doubt that I will listen to it again. The differences from the original only added to the charm. It was so nice not to have s book filled with Caroline Bingley's pettiness and unnecessary angst. I enjoyed Lady Catherine's manner and even found the sterner Mr. Bennett engaging.

Great narrator; enjoyable book!

This is a great twist on a classic novel, Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice, that imagines very different fates for the various characters. Maria Grace provides a fun and consistently interesting story, and Elizabeth Klett does a great job voicing all of the many characters, from stern Admiral Bennet to the mischievous little boys to my favorite, Elizabeth Bennet.

Adorable Role Reversal, characters still ring true

In this adaptation, the shoe's on the other foot. When Admiral Bennett and his family enter Derbyshire, with their situation in life very different, it is they who jaded by the machinations of the Ton. New misunderstanding arise between characters that still feel genuine to Austen's version, even the with the loss of some characters any additional others.

Enjoyable rethinking of Pride and Prejudice

Klett is one of my favorite narrators. She has a beautiful voice and does a great job capturing the different characters. Her voice is soothing yet keeps you engaged.
I very much enjoyed the story. Initially, I found it confusing to have the names we associate with Pride and Prejudice connected to characters with different characteristics. My preference would have been to have this story but to use different names – it would have lessened my confusion. However, I take it that this was done to draw in fans of P and P or perhaps as some sort of fan fiction.
In any case, once I got over my initial confusion, I was engaged in this lovely story. The characters were at times amusing and charming. Just a delightful and relaxing audio!

Remember the past

Any additional comments?

What a wonderful story line!! Mr. Bennett had a backbone, Lady Catherine is very kind and generous and Darcy and Lizzy hit it off almost immediately....very enjoyable read!

Diffenent retelling of P&P simple and sweet story!

Where does Remember the Past: ...Only as It Gives You Pleasure rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

It ranks among the top. Elizebeth Klett is one of my favorite narrator.

What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)

The ending was apt for the story. I was happy with it.

Have you listened to any of Elizabeth Klett’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Yes i have listened to quite a few of them and i have loved them all. She has narrated this story exceptionally well with her voice modulation for different characters.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

No extreme reaction. It was a simple and sweet story over all and i quite enjoyed listening to it.

Any additional comments?

I’ve usually never attempted to read a P&P fan fiction as I have a feeling that I would end up not liking it. Though this book seems like a P&P fanfic except for the names I didn’t find any similarities either story wise or character wise. The author has given an entirely new makeover to the story as well as for all the characters and I quite liked it (only if I stop comparing this to JA’s P&P)
Admiral Bennet and has two daughters Jane and Lizzy and twin sons and is quite a strict father and unreasonable at times as well who does not like Darcy for a son in law. The war of words between Lizzy and Darcy’s is quite less compared to Bennet and Darcy. The premises was quite different here and the whole story was carried nicely justifying each twists and turns. I loved the language too.

Altered P&P World with Admiral Bennet

Odd variation of Pride and Prejudice with a very different Bennet family beginning with Mr Bennet being an Admiral with only Jane and Lizzy from his first marriage and twin boys from his second. He and his family are on a social level with Mr Darcy. I would call this more of a light adventurous variation than one authentic to the period or Austen’s characters. It was interesting. The narrator was good.
