About this listen

A missing student. A singular investigation. A new romance. Every bit of it is a mystery in a delightful novel of cosmic twists by the author of How to Win a Breakup.

East House is the oldest and least desirable dorm on campus, but it has a draw for lonely university freshman Aleeza Kassam: Jay Hoque, the hot and broody student who vanished from East House five months ago without a trace. It’s irresistible to an aspiring investigative journalist like Aleeza.

But when she starts receiving texts from Jay, the mystery takes an unexpected turn. To put it mildly. His messages are coming not only from Aleeza’s own dorm room but from the past—only weeks before he disappeared. Sharing space, if not time, Aleeza and Jay are living the impossible, and they start working together to prevent his inevitable disappearance. Causing a temporal paradox that could blow up the universe is a risk they’re going to have to take.

Aleeza digs through Jay’s suspicious friends, enemies, and exes, determined to find out what happened to him. Or what will happen to him. But it’s becoming more than a mystery. Aleeza is catching feelings for her charming new roommate. Wherever, and whenever, he may be.

Critic reviews

“Soneela Nankani will keep listeners glued to their earbuds with her narration of this intriguing mystery.… Nankani's choice not to use Indian accents for Aleeza, Jay, and their families reflects the second-generation Canadian experience. The text calls for her to voice mostly college students, a few of whom are privileged and snotty. A gripping listen!”AudioFile Magazine

“Heron makes this heady conceit work through even pacing, expertly deployed clues, and a genuine depth of feeling between her main characters as they self-reflect and fall in love. It’s an impressive mix of excitement and emotion.”Publishers Weekly

Good time travel story line

I liked the story more than I thought I would. Cute time travel storyline with some missing person/potential murder suspense. A bit too much young adult angst for me but not over the top. It helped that I had been a college student (before cell phones) living in a dorm situation so could relate to roommate issues. (Some things don’t change with technology). Helps to find your friends group.

Octopuses, and mystery

I enjoyed this book. It was a mystery and a little bit of science all in one. As an American, I didn't understand that the micro aggressions mentioned are a thing in Canada (or at least something the author wanted to draw attention to). It seems like the author wanted to draw attention to discrimination against immigrants in Canada but more targetly, Brown immigrants. She mentioned East Asians, and even Black students but she homed in on a disparity in treatment for South Asian immigrants.

The book was well written, entertaining and thought provoking. The side characters were well developed and the story flowed well.

I listened to this book on Audible (it was included free with Kindle purchase) and the main character's voice was extremely annoying. The voice actor is extremely talented and I've listened to her before in The Storyteller's Secret.

Different but really good

I really liked the characters and the development of them. Unique idea with the “ time” travel so to speak. Easy to follow.

loved "The Lakehouse" and loved this book

I cake across this book as a suggestion from a YouTuber (the bookishknitter) I am so glad I did. I really enjoyed the story. It was so sweet, but the mystery kept the story moving along without being overwhelming. Highly recommended.

Loved it

I am much older than this group, but I loved listening to the story. Yes, it did remind me of ‘The Lake House’, but with its own twist. I enjoyed the mystery, the supportive friendships, and of course the timelap.

Fabulous Plot, Interesting Characters, in a Canadian Setting...

I was impressed at the sheer elegance of the plot. I hate to guess/know what's coming, and this book kept me engaged and surprised right up to the end. The multicultural aspects of race and economic status of the characters added realism and a current vibe to the story. Lastly, I LOVE a great love story, In fact, I have published one myself. REMEMBER ME TOMORROW did not disappoint!
