Four years later, I received an acceptance letter from Dracadia University, one of the oldest most prestigious schools in the country. Nestled on a secluded island off the coast of Maine, it's rumored to be haunted by the souls of the mental patients exiled there centuries before, those whose bones are said to make up the island's white sandy shores. The Earl of St. Merryn needs a woman. His intentions are purely practical - he simply wants someone sensible and suitably lovely to pose as his betrothed for a few weeks among polite society. He has his own agenda to pursue, and a false fiancée will keep the husband-hunters at bay while he goes about his business. The simplest solution is to hire a paid companion. Finding the right candidate proves more of a challenge than he expected.

Great narration, good story.
The story line dragged out, to the point I almost gave up, wound up skipping through some of it. The plot is great and unique, but getting to the inevitable took sooo long, then was skimmed over like the listener hadn't waited hours to get to it... Katherine's reaction to Larson's identity was loooong awaited, then fell flat and stale (to me). The writing was so good otherwise, the sordid past that made Larson so untrusting... so many details made this book unique and interesting. I just wish the timing was different and the reactions were more realistic. Also, the climax... it didn't need the added incident before the birth, there was already so much going on. It muddled the story and then left other bits unanswered and unsatisfied. I am being critical, but the faith elements of the book were written very well and were thought provoking. Also the narration was beautifully done. I'm sure 75% of listeners would enjoy what I'm critical of.

Wonderful Plot, Excellent Writing
I love it when a book brings an excellent plot, great characters and a well written manuscript to the reader. This pg13 passionate story tells Kathryn's journey of loosing her husband but finding God's gift so much better. There are no gaps in this book. It's one of my favorites. The prayers and scripture are used in such a real life way that it strengthens the reader's faith.

excellent book!
I loved this book by Tamera. although I did get mad at Larson several times for thinking bad about his wife. I know that was the authors way of keeping us engaged in the book. I can't wait to read the next one.

Great start to this series!
This was such an interesting tale of redemption. How so often we fail to see what is right in front of us. After this I can’t wait to start the next book. Well worth a credit.

Deep and heartfelt, believable characters
Really excellent. Deep characters making believable choices, and a climax that had me on the edge of my seat (at least figuratively!) I really felt for the characters, and while at times their choices frustrated me (a lot) I always understood WHY they were making those choices. I also appreciated how the growing faith of the characters felt very natural to the story rather than forced.
Just be aware, this story does have very frequent descriptions of desire and intimacy within marriage. Not graphic or steamy in the slightest, but personally, I wouldn't have wanted to read this one before I was married, because the longing husband and wife to be intimate with each other is a repeated theme within the context of the story.
As far as the audiobook goes, my only complaint is that there was never a pause or anything else to indicate when the scene changed, and it was jarring to be listening and then suddenly have the story shift to a completely different day or even character perspective. The narrator was great though.

Pure and sweet
I really enjoyed this book. In the beginning, I disliked the main male character so it took a little while to give it a real chance, but I stayed with it, and it really impressed me thru the remainder of the book.
It was compelling and thoughtful, and most importantly, full of Christ. I loved it!
