About this listen
An American inherits a title and a love he never expected when he comes to England to claim his fortune in award-winning author Elizabeth Mansfield's sparkling Regency tale.
The Hartleys are on the brink of disaster. Viscount Mainwaring has died, unaccountably leaving his entire fortune to an American. Worst of all, Anne Hartley's future is in jeopardy. She has been forbidden from marrying the nobleman she has adored since the moment she found him thrown from his horse in Hyde Park.
With two society families up in arms, the unwitting new Viscount Mainwaring arrives in England to claim his title. That's when Anne's scheming stepmother comes up with a plan to save them all from imminent ruin. All that proper, sensible Anne has to do is transform the uncouth Virginian into an English gentleman. But Jason Hughes isn't the ill-mannered boor everyone expects. And love was never part of the bargain.

Story
When James Everard announced that he had invited a young lady home for the holidays, his father, the Earl of Gyllford, was astounded and skeptical. Could it be that Jamie was finally showing an interest in something other than horseplay with his friends? But when lovely Miss Evalyn Pennington arrived at Gyllford Manor, it was the earl who found himself inexplicably drawn to her winsome beauty. Having been dismissed from her post as a governess, Evalyn would long remember the kindness of being welcomed at Gyllford Manor when she had nowhere else to turn.

Highly disappointing
This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?
Anyone who is not interested in good writing
What was most disappointing about Elizabeth Mansfield’s story?
Everything. There was no research into Regency manners, dress, food etc. I had trouble recognising what period it was set in.
How could the performance have been better?
It was OK but had no substance - no characterisation. I really hated the American twang,
What character would you cut from Regency Sting?
All of them. They were universally horrible and unbelievable
Any additional comments?
I have no idea why this book was ever published. This author needs to do a lot more research and read authors such as Jane Austen an Georgette Heyer.
