About this listen
Fourteen-year-old Billy Andrews has a big mouth that tends to plunge him into deep trouble. His loose tongue is only a part of the problem - he's also a thief and a liar whose ultimate dream in life is to see the government pay for his housing and groceries while he sits home and does nothing.
Fortunately for Billy, after he gets caught pick-pocketing an off-duty police officer, he is placed under the watchful eye of probation officer Philip Bones. Mr. Bones will stop at nothing to turn Billy around - no matter how obstinate the teenager may be. It's going to be a battle, but the probation officer is in it to win. Can he do it?

With a zero-tolerance policy for those in authority, 13-year-old Alden Wamboldt is setting himself up for a life behind bars. His actions are derived from two things - anger and power. He gets his thrills from antagonizing those who should have the rule over him. Well, that, and making his peers hate the day they were born. But Alden is in for a huge surprise when he meets probation officer Philip Bones, a man whose motto is to “make no bones about it." When it seems everyone else has given up all hope on Alden’s improving, Philip Bones steps up to the plate.

Story
In the still-segregated town of West Mills, North Carolina, in 1976, Marian, Marva, and Lazarus Harmon—three enigmatic siblings—are found shot to death in their home. The people of West Mills— on both sides of the canal that serves as the town’s color line—are in a frenzy of finger-pointing, gossip, and wonder. The crime is the first reported murder in the area in decades, but the white authorities don’t seem to have any interest in solving the case.

A Truly Amazing Book - with great narration
I have already listened to Rebuilding Alden, and it was great! I was so excited to find out there was another book! The narrator is really good, plays the voices perfectly, and expresses the emotions so well that it adds so much to the joy of listening to this book! I love JR Thompson for writing these books, and further exploiting the difficulties of teens. Great job to both narrator and writer!

Surprisingly awesome!
Mr. Bowman does great Billy is bad and his mother is ambivalent. She wants him to be a good boy, but at the same time she wants to protect them from hurting Peyton. Even if it’s just imagine by him. So when Mr. bones forces the discipline that she doesn’t agree with in front of Billy she argues with him. No actually that was the turning point in the book everything before it’s not only funny andLOL moments, but it also is meaningful. Mr. bones how do I strict disciplinarian it’s also a caring loving man who loves God and wants his girlfriend back. This book is so good I could go on anon and tell you about it, but it’s best you read it for yourself. The narrator made the lines even funnier with so many different versions of characters is amazing to me. Recommend this book to those Who love happy endings and books that exalt God. I loved it!
