Fan favorite and acclaimed narrator Scott Brick delivers an electrifying performance of this #1 international award-winning bestseller and thriller that has taken the world by storm.

Introducing Antonia Scott—the most compelling and original detective since Lisbeth Salander—in Juan Gómez-Jurado's
Red Queen, the #1 international award-winning bestseller & thriller that has taken the world by storm.

Antonia Scott—the daughter of a British diplomat and a Spanish mother—has a gifted forensic mind, whose ability to reconstruct crimes and solve baffling murders is legendary. But after a personal trauma, she's refused to continue her work or even leave her apartment.

Jon Gutierrez, a police officer in Bilbao—disgraced, suspended, and about to face criminal charges—is offered a chance to salvage his career by a secretive organization that works in the shadows to direct criminal investigations of a highly sensitive nature. All he has to do is succeed where many others have failed: Convince a recalcitrant Antonia to come out of her self-imposed retirement, protecting her and helping her investigate a terrifying new case.

The case is a macabre, ritualistic murder—a teen-aged boy from a wealthy family whose body was found without a drop of blood left in it. But the murder is just the start. A high-ranking executive and daughter of one of the richest men in Spain is kidnapped, a crime which is tied to the previous murder. Behind them both is a hidden mastermind with even more sinister plans. And the only person with a chance to see the connections, solve the crimes and successfully match wits with the killer before tragedy strikes again...is Antonia Scott.

Critic reviews

"Terrific—a complex story that unfolds at breakneck speed, a compelling plot filled with twist after twist, a story told with rich, fluid language, and a fascinating, well realized unlikely pair of characters, especially the brilliant Antonia Scott. Distinctive and entertaining."—David Morrell, New York Times bestselling author of Murder as a Fine Art

"Red Queen is in a class by itself. This terrific novel has all the page-turning elements of the very best thrillers but what really makes it truly remarkable is the writing itself. Engaging and heartbreaking, witty and wry and immersive—and beautifully structured. I have never read a book as gorgeously complex as this—and that is the highest of compliments. Juan Gómez-Jurado has written an instant classic."– Hank Phillippi Ryan, USA Today bestselling author of Her Perfect Life

Outstanding story and performance!

One of those audiobooks that is so familiar and yet so different that it slips around your guard. The characters and cadence and performance just melt away the outside world and let you fully trust the story. Thrilling and thoughtful ans rich.

Be sure to listen to the interview with author and narrator afterwards. It was so good it made me want that experience after every good book, though I suspect few of any will match this one.

A Thriller Ruined by the Narrator

Well, it was a thriller as promised by the reviews. However, I listened to it on audiobook and forgot just how much I dislike Scott Brick as a narrator. He has a stilted manner, over emphasizes every other word, and ends up in a sing-song cadence. Plus all his dialogue seems tinged with low level anger - not what I really want right now.

The story was good, but not great, and a bit too much violence for me. I doubt I'll read another book by this author. And given the positive reviews by critics, I had suggested the book to our book club. So, I'll be interested in seeing if those who actually read the book will have a different perspective than I who listened to a non-inspiring narrator.

Great new series!

I really enjoyed this story- sometimes when books are translated something seems missing in the translation. Scott Brick's narration was wonderful, as usual. I also liked the author-narrator interview after the story. Can't wait for the next installment!

Narrator

I thoroughly enjoyed the book. The narrator however was not my favorite. A little too much drama in his voice.

Mediocre at best

Story not that great. Alot of typical personalities (stereotype). Excessive descriptions of disturbed psyches. Narration overdramatic. I would not recommend.

great book with not so good narration

This book has a nicely woven story which keeps you excited and wanting to hear more and I look forward to listen or read more from the author. However, I did not the like the narrator’s style which is annoyingly pretentious.

Liked it!

I liked the characters and the story very much. Surprisingly, I even liked Scott Brick's narration. He is not my favorite narrator (somehow he always sounds smug when he narrates), but but he always does a good job. I found during his interview with the author that I really his 'real' voice. Instead of the smug/strident/overly dramatic tone of his narration, Scott's 'real' voice and relaxed delivery in the author's interview were so pleasant and actually quite wonderful. More of that Scott Brick, please!

Entertaining

Entertaining thriller with high-caliber performance. The story is so-so and doesn’t feel quite as original as I expected.

Unique suspenseful mystery

The books that have interesting and unique characters are often the most entertaining and, if in the thriller genre, the most suspenseful.
