About this listen

From his deathbed, Hero-King Inglis, the divine knight and master of all he surveys, gazes down on the empire he built with his mighty hand. Having devoted his life to statecraft and his subjects' well-being, his one unfulfilled wish is to live again, for himself this time: a warrior's life he'd devoted himself to before his rise to power.

His patron goddess, Alistia, hears his plea and smiles upon him, flinging his soul into the far future. Goddesses work in mysterious ways—not only is Inglis now the daughter of a minor noble family, but at her first coming-of-age ceremony at six, she's found ineligible to begin her knighthood!

However, for a lady of Inglis's ambition, this is less a setback and more the challenge she was (re)born to overcome. "It's not the blood that runs through your veins that makes a knight; it's the blood you shed on the battlefield!" The curtain rises on the legend of an extraordinary lady squire reborn to master the blade!

Great start for a new series!

Interesting twist on the hero point of view. He gets a big surprise when he wakes up as a girl! Provides character development and keeps you engaged.

Cute

Coming from the perspective of already seeing the anime before listening to this, I still found it cute and entertaining. It isn't high art, it isn't super thrilling, but it is fun to listen to and sort of relaxing in a weird way. It was interesting to hear more of how the main character thinks, although most of the time that can be boiled down to "I want to fight strong opponents." My only slight gripe was the very timid narrator who read this like she has paper thin walls and did not want disturb her neighbors. This made exclamations and battle sounds rather awkward and and weak, as if the characters were almost apologetic for getting excited. It isn't a deal breaker, but it did spoil the experience a bit. Beyond that, it was nice to listen to and I have no other complaints.

1 dimensional characters.

I had to give up on it 2 hours in. All of the characters have at most one personality trait or thing they are looking for and are completely utterly shallow beyond that. I thought the concept could be good, but i was dissapointed there too. In the two hours in which i listened, the main character just brushed it off and didn't comment on it much at all.

Narrator was fine, if too quiet. As another reviewer said, it really does feel like she was worried about others hearing her do the performance.
