Publisher's summary

Magic is one thing. Three balls of fluff and fur are a completely different story.

The prestigious and highly selective Jourdemayne Academy of Witchcraft only accepts 25 new students every year. But Harper Bishop has been virtually guaranteed her acceptance to the magic academy since the day she was born. One of the many perks of being the daughter of two legendary Warlocks.

But attending the academy was never her dream. Magic, quite frankly, bores Harper out of her goddamn mind. She wants to get out, see the world, experience life in all its glory. Passing on the school isn't an option, however. So she arrives for her first day and begins the countdown to freedom.

Until three tiny kittens start speaking to her telepathically.

Which isn't normal, even for witches.

Now it's not just surviving boring spell classes that Harper has to worry about. Something evil and powerful is coming to the Academy and only Harper and her magical kittens can stop it before it destroys everything in its path. What's the worst that could happen?

Cute cozy YA paranormal mystery

Purrfect Magic is the first in a new paranormal cozy mystery series. Harper Bishop is the daughter of two famous warlocks but she does not really want much to do with magic. Her parent’s position got her a position at the prestigious Jourdemayne Academy magical school. Her goal is to coast through her three years at the academy and then move on to her own life. In the middle of her first term she comes across three fluffy white kittens who turn out to be mystical beings protecting the academy. Strange things start happening and Harper gets drawn into a deadly mystery that could destroy the school.

This was a cute, enjoyable YA listen. The story is interesting with twists and turns but could have been much more fleshed out to give more details. At 3 ½ hours the audiobook is a short listen that had plenty of room for development. Harper’s character was very self-absorbed and really rather unlikeable. She did redeem herself by the end of the book and I would expect she will develop in future books. The kittens were funny and their ancient being voices were a fun contrast to the image of little furry kittens.

Jeannette Smith did a good job with the narration. She voiced each character as individuals and had a pleasant voice to listen to.

Overall, I enjoyed listening to this quick story.

Oooo kitties

This YA paranormal was a lot of fun. I can't wait for the next part. This may be targeting young adults but I enjoyed it and I'm 57. So age does not matter.
The narrative brings the story to life.
I'll definitely be listening to it again.

Fun fantasy, paranormal YA mystery!

Purrfect Magic, Whicker Witchcraft, Book 1, by Samantha Coville was a fun listen. I felt that this was geared a little more to a young adult crowd, but I enjoyed it nonetheless. This story revolves around Harper, a witch starting out at the Jourdemayne Academy of Witchcraft. It's not long before she meets a boy from the Academy across the river as well as finds three adorable kittens that need her help to survive. So between feeding the kittens and trying to make it to classes so that she can mingle with the boys academy at the next get-together, she learns that there's more to the kittens than meets the eye and her school and the people in it are in danger. She's not sure from what, but she learns that the kittens are actually Hellcats that have chosen her to be their guardian. This book was entertaining and once I got over Harper's snobby attitude, I found it really enjoyable. This is a quick listen and I can't wait to find out what happens next! It's a standalone book, but there is a bit of a cliffhanger at the end, though it's not a cliffhanger that leaves you irritated that you have to wait until the next book. Everything is pretty much tied up nicely.

Jeannette Smith did a great job narrating this story. She did a great job sounding like a somewhat bratty and entitled Harper and brought life to the characters and story. I really enjoyed it! Cute story of cat magic

Purrfect Magic was a cute fast read/listen. I enjoyed the audio narration, the voices and pacing were great.
The story, was more so-so. The ending kind of rushed and the reasons for the big bad weren't really fleshed out. There could have been a lot more there to develop a good villain. Our main character is kind of entitled already and why she was picked by the cats as the protector, I am unsure. But the cats I liked, a lot. They were cute and silly as cats should be, and have some amazing abilities.
Overall a 3 star quick enjoyable book if you're not looking for anything too serious and just want a fun urban fantasy adventure.

Fun Witchy Academy Mystery/Romance

This story is short but so worth your time. I love Teen/YA paranormal Academy Series and this one does Not disappoint. It took me a bit to get sucked into the story but once I did, I did not want to put it down. I was able to listen to it in one sitting and I’m impatiently waiting for the next one.

I enjoyed the Author’s writing style and the unexpected twists and turns. I was sad that it concluded so quickly! I’m looking forward to finding out more about the mysterious villain.

Narration was good and brought the story to life.

The story flowed at a good pace and I enjoyed the 3 adorable kittens and the important part they play in the story. Such a fun and unique story. I’m looking forward to finding out what will happen while Harper is stuck taking care of them for the summer. Hopefully, it will be anything but boring. I need the next one now!!!!

Witches, Cats and Murders

I liked this young adult paranormal mystery . It's got marauding monsters, telepathic kittens, magic classes to rival Hogwarts, a little teen romance and a lot of teen angst and more surprises than you might have expected.
The story is well written, the characters engaging, the mystery well concealed till the very end, and not entirely revealed even then because ... sequels, don't ya know.
Narrator Jeannette Smith reads well, making the story easy to follow and bringing the characters to life.

Good but typical

I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

This was a good book but it turns out that it wasn't really my thing. I liked it but it just felt very typical for a book about magic. The cats were a new spin which I did enjoy but the rest of it was just a bit too well-used for my liking.

All that being said, it was well written and the narrator was great. I liked the main character and I loved the cats.
