Publisher's summary

The silver chemical compound called “Pure Serendipity” has the strangest properties. Even tiny amounts in the body cause profound changes. Affecting the brain in previously unknown ways, users find themselves in an inverted "opposite" world where their likes and dislikes are reversed, unpleasant and frightening situations become appealing, disgust triggers elation, and dismay, even pain, morph into pleasurable sensations. The drug is highly addictive.

Norton Halverd, the eccentric inventor and cyber engineer who created the substance purely by accident, discovers to his horror that the chemical, thought to be destroyed, is very much in play. A religious fanatic has been abusing the drug to build a cult of followers, and she has plans to replicate it and create massive quantities. Norton must now try to keep Pure Serendipity from becoming a plague upon the world.

slightly twisted and definitely unique!

Pure Serendipity is a silverish chemical discovered by a scientist and released into the world by an activist. The result leaves the user wanting the exact opposite in their world. Mix in religion, fear of government use, and a possible widespread global plague

We’ve heard of opposite day, but what about an opposite way of life … the author, David W. Thompson, crafted a narrative around this topic, highlighting in vivid detail the likely consequences and outcomes. In the hands of a religious cult leader or high-ranking government official, or a wealthy, well-connected, and evil being, the results could be catastrophic. The story has a surrealist tone and addresses issues affecting many today – such as activists resorting to destruction to amplify their voices, religious and government control, and the alarming ease with which disease or addiction can be spread. Thompson vividly and richly developed each character, providing details that consistently brought the narrative to life – I could almost smell the folks in the commune. The dialogue and storyline were engaging to the listener. The plot twists were well executed and not totally expected, while providing an ending that was a surprise!

As the narrator, David W Thompson did a great job for his first venture into narration. He spoke clearly and concisely. The characters were easy to identify as he employed subtle intonation and a distinct mannerism and delivery style for each character. I found his voice pleasant to hear as well.

Overall, this is an interesting book that seems fantastical at times but also hints at much deeper and darker possibilities of reality to come. I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys unique, fun, and slightly twisted narratives.
