Ok for students

Some of the answers are a bit confusing and inconsistent. However it is ok for a review at 1.5x speed or faster. Also some massively mispronounced terms.

PTSD is not classified under Anxiety d/o

In the DSM-5, released in 2013, Trauma- and Stressor-Related Disorders was removed from the Anxiety Disorders and made a Classification heading of its own. The test question in Chapter 1 is wrong and states it is a subheading under Anxiety Disorders.

This testing material was released in 2017 and needs to be corrected.

I hope Trauma- and Stressor-Related Disorders is significantly and appropriately addressed, based on the research of the past 20-25 years. If it’s not, that would be a major weakness — since it’s groundbreaking and likely the genesis of many mental illnesses.

I’m also hoping epigenetics and generational trauma, as it relates to PTSD, addiction, and neurodevelopmental disorders, is sufficiently covered based on recent science too.

I know I haven’t listened to the entire book yet, but I’ve studied Childhood/Developmental Trauma for years now, and it’s a major recent area of research study since the Kaiser-Permanente ACE study was released in the 1990s. So, I certainly hope this Audiobook covers research of the past 25 years, since it is exceptionally significant in current knowledge.

Also, be watching for Psychiatric research related to COVID-19, and delusions about Presidential candidates. I hope those topics are being studied in an objective fashion! Because there’s a lot of cognitive distortions and a vast increase in mental health problems arising from current events.

A few errors in Chapter 10

Ch. 10 Question 6 @ 48:11.
Question 6 reads - which substance abuse disorder has a craving for pain killers?
A: The answer given - amphetamine abuse disorder. The CORRECT answer should be OPIOID abuse disorder. Opioids are a type of pain killer.

Chapter 10 @ 49:24
The question reads - which substance abuse disorder is treated with Antabuse?
A: the answer given was tobacco use disorder. The CORRECT answer should be ALCOHOL abuse disorder.
Tobacco use disorder can be treated with nicotine replacements such as gum, lozenges, or patches.

Review

This company does a spectacular job explaining key points with clear and concise explanations that can be reviewed again and again until all material is absorbed. I would recommend this product to any medical student as part of their study materials.

To much is given, much is expected

The products created by AudioLearn are top notched. However, it is impossible for lectures in a traditional college setting just to lecture their with out providing their students with the necessary PowerPoints for the students to have or Textbooks for their students to purchase. So, Audio lectures alone without physical content to engage with is not adequate enough to allow students to succeed.

As a student in graduate school, I appeal to the leadership of Audio Learn to make accessible the contents needed for every student to fully learn and to become successful.

Thank you for considering.

Quiz Questions are erroneous.

Very well narrated. Material is mostly up-to-date. At the end of each chapter is a quiz with clearly erroneous answers. I am rather baffled by that.

Robot narrator

The narrator sounds like a high-end text-to-speech program. I'm one chapter in and lack of variance in her tone and cadence make this audiobook a bit of a slog to get through. The content is informative, and as psych-NP student it provides a great review of 'high-yield' content, but I think I would be more engaged if I just read the book aloud to myself---which kind of defeats the point!
