About this listen
Telling a story about the importance of survival within any circumstances, however strange, and showing a girl-in-a-man's-world angle, Presence is a novel about Samantha, a woman in her late 20s, both smart and attractive.
One day, Samantha's regular life is suddenly turned around as the fact of her existence is somehow erased from the world. Nobody seems to remember her, and her own apartment is occupied by the uninvited tenants. Even her sister, the only family Samantha has, is unable to recognize her.
Lost and confused, Samantha accepts help from a stranger, a charismatic man named Archie, whom she accidentally encounters and unwillingly joins him in his fight against the silent invasion of the planet, Alpha planet, as he calls it. He happens to be a soldier from a parallel one called Beta.
The glass wall put between Samantha’s new life and her former life makes her discover the roadside of the world, dark and silent, the hidden place where her primary instincts come to the surface, and she finally feels the urge to fight for herself and for others.

Interesting concept with a cliffhanger
Samantha begins having a strange noise in her head all the time and it is destroying her life. She has left her husband, quit her job, sees a therapist, but nothing is helping. Until she confronts the strange man who sits outside her apartment watching the trains go by. The noise goes away, then people, including her sister, have no clue who she is. Archie, the man who watches the trains, informs her that she has been deleted from the system.
Perie Wolford started with gay fiction, some of which were takeoffs of movies. Over the past year, he has switched to horror, with a little sci-fi thrown in. This is one of them. An interesting concept here, although rather short. But it leaves you with a cliffhanger, so more is to come.
The Narrator, Darla Middlebrook was OK. She reminded me of a teacher reading a story to kids in a classroom. Not in a bad way though, but she just didn't add any tension or much drama to the story.
