Touching, inspiring, amazing

Precious is an amazing girl! I wanted to hold her and protect her, cheer her on to give her strength. She is just an inspiring girl! I was crying and laughing, hoping and praying for her all at the same time! I recommend everyone read this!

Great Book Heartbreaking Content

Would you listen to Precious again? Why?

After having watched the movie years ago, I decided to listen to the book when it showed up on my recommended list. It was hard to listen to at times, because the content was so rough, but I enjoyed it overall. I'm not sure I would listen again, only because hearing those awful things people did to Precious was enough.

What about Bahni Turpin’s performance did you like?

I love Bahni Turpin. I've listened to several of her recordings, and so far she has yet to disappoint.

If you could take any character from Precious out to dinner, who would it be and why?

Maybe her mom, just to knock her out.

Raw but real. Very well written.

Though this was hard to listen to because the content is so graffic it is a raw and real story of very horrific subject matter. Well written and conveyed in a way that connects the reader to the character.

painful

The reader was amazing. they had a lot of passion in their voice.

The book is also amazing. you really feel like a fly on The Wall watching The life of The character. id just like to put a TW on it. there is mentioned of SH SA incest ect. word choices are also rather derogatory so please take care of yourself and your mind while listening/reading it.

A True Dose of Reality . . .

I purchased this book and had it sitting on my iPod to listen to . . but decided after watching the Academy Awards on Sunday to listen to it before I rented and watched the movie. And I was not disappointed . . although the language is raw . . the feeling is real. And the further you get into the story . . . you realize it's not just about being black, poor or the result of a system of well-fare that frequently instead of helping people . . only makes them more dependent and promotes fraud. It also reminds us of a society that preys on females . . . and that abuse crosses all color barriers. And it's the story of one girl's ability to overcome all of these barriers . . . and develop into a whole person. A truly inspirational story . . . now I'm looking forward to watching the movie based on it as well.

The book was fantastic! Was hard to get through some parts due to graphic content regarding abuse. But all and all a great read!!

compelling

I got this not knowing much about the writer or story. Just kept hearing the Oscar buzz for it. I can not express enough how heart wrenching gutting and somehow drizzled with hope this journey has been. I have cried, cheered and have been taken on a journey through the narrators voice. The language is real, raw unrepentant. Days later I'm still thinking of Precious...

Fantastic narration

As soon as I listed to the sample I knew I had to download this. The narrator is stunningly talented and the book is gripping. Highly recommend.

A True Beauty from Ashes Story

Precious becomes real on the page telling the audience the raw truth about herself and her circumstances. Precious holds back nothing inviting you into her life through her honest words. Every page draws you closer to her making you want to tear through a wormhole to prevent the harm done to her. Knowing that you cannot leaves you feeling inadequate but not hopeless. Prompting you to vow to yourself to speak up for yourself and other women who have never had the chance. Precious inspires you to let go of your excuses and ask not why me, but what is next.
