About this listen

From award-winning and international best-selling author Melanie A. Smith comes a steamy stand-alone novel in the Cocky Hero world.

Zelda

Life as a Las Vegas fake wedding coordinator has never been boring.

Unfortunately for me, it just got a little too exciting...the bad kind of exciting that lands you in the emergency room.

On the bright side, it was a hot paramedic who showed up to save the day. Sure, he’s a bit cocky, but it works for him. And now I can’t get him out of my mind...which was the good kind of exciting until it wasn’t. Until one date turned into a fake marriage fiasco.

Now I don’t know if we’re really falling for each other or if it’s all an act.

Ty

Being a paramedic in Vegas, I’ve seen it all. Or I thought I had until I got a call for a fall victim who’d tripped over a swan and tumbled into a pond.

Luckily for her, I follow up with my patients—especially the pretty ones—and I made sure she was on the road to recovery in no time. And by “road to recovery”, I obviously mean ready to go on a date with me.

But unluckily for me, our first real date found me waking up hungover only to discover that we’d gotten married the night before.

Or so I thought. Turns out we weren’t actually married. But I didn’t know that when I let it slip to my dying mother, whose last wish is for me to find someone to take care of me once she’s gone.

Really, it’s my job to take care of people. But with three hearts on the line? Even I’m not that good. And I know someone’s heart is bound to get broken.

Funny, sweet fake to real relationship

I enjoyed this story which had a nice mix of sweetness, spice, humor, and romance. Javi Wilder and Vivienne LaRue did an amazing job in narrating the story and I enjoyed listening to them.

Great story

4.5 stars

Great story about Zelda and Tyler. They meet when Zelda is involved in an accident at work and Tyler is the first responder. He visits her in the hospital to see how she’s feeling and they like each other a lot (aka are heavily attracted to one another). When a lie to benefit his dying mother gets out of hand, they’re forced to acknowledge their feelings. And then Ty blows it…. Will he be able to fix this relationship?

I absolutely loved it, especially the epilogue. Great chemistry between Ty and Zelda.

Both narrators did a really good job bringing all characters to life.

Steamy, Fun Story!

A wonderful story with an overworked fake wedding planner and a rather pompous paramedic! There's lots of chemistry between Zelda and Ty from the get go! They have a fun meet cute where Zelda falls into a pond because of a rather drunk fake groom and an angry real swan. Ty responds to the call and meets Zelda. The story is told in dual POV, switching perspectives almost every other chapter.
The fake relationship trope plays well here because Ty and Zelda work well together, they have a few rough edges from life's experiences, but they are willing to fake it for Ty's mom. I liked the character growth of Zelda more than Ty, I thought she was able to grow more as the story progressed compared to Ty. I also liked all the secondary characters and would like to see more of a couple of the secondary characters in future stories!
It's a fun read/listen, with great characters, lots of chemistry, plenty of steam, and a very crafty mother! I'd recommend this to anyone who needs a pompous paramedic in their life!

There's plenty of steam, swearing, and some mild medical talk.
The story can be read as a standalone, but if you've read Smith's Vegas Baby, you'll recognize one of the secondary characters!

I liked the narrators! I've listened to Vivienne LaRue before and she always does a wonderful job! Javi Wilder is new to me and I also enjoyed his narration. Both did a good job differentiating between male and female voices and differentiating the voices of the characters to the general narration of the story. Each narrator narrates the entire chapter for both male and female voices. I listened at 1.15x speed.
