About this listen

Aces and eights, a dead man's hand. Life and death dealt over a shuffle of a deck. Stakes from dollar bills to souls tossed into the center of the table. And sitting around, waiting for the turn of a card, to raise, check, bet, or fold, are rogues, scoundrels, dames, and sharps. Every single one betting their last breath on the hand they hold.

Pro Se Productions presents Poker Pulp, an anthology centered around the storied, legendary game of cards and chance. Authors J. H. Fleming, Michael Krog, and Brad Mengel deal three tales that up the ante, taking poker to an all new level of pulp. Action, adventure, and intrigue are the game of choice in Pro Se Productions' Poker Pulp.

A Fun Read

What did you love best about Poker Pulp?

The overall concept of having stories in which the protagonist's future depends on the outcome of a poker game. Each story uses the theme in a different way, and brings in several interesting characters to flesh out the plot.

What did you like best about this story?

Even though the story endings were pretty predictable, the plot developments along the way made the stories fun to listen to.

Have you listened to any of Scott Sutherland’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

This is the first of Scott's books that I've listened to, but it won't be the last. A small disclaimer: I know Scott personally. He is a very talented actor, and that talent is definitely on display here. The characters are very distinct and the pacing of the storytelling is just right.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

These stories are - as the title implies - pulp fiction. They're not meant to be heavy or intellectual. They are meant to entertain, and they do that very well. No lessons, just fun stories.

Any additional comments?

This was my first book from Audible, but I will certainly be downloading more in the future.
