About this listen
After fifteen years of keeping notes on the things he's learned, the greats he's played with, and the celebrities he's taught, Phil Gordon has poured every single thing he knows about No Limit Texas Hold'em into this little green book. Taking a page from Harvey Penick's bestselling book of golf wisdom, Phil plays the role of both teacher and student, offering up insightful tips on how to think about poker and how to develop a singular style of play. Through philosophy, psychology, strategy, math, and the knowledge gleaned from playing poker with everyone from T. J. Cloutier and Phil Ivey to Hank Azaria and Ben Affleck, Phil breaks down the game into enlightening instructional tidbits and illustrative anecdotes that inspire the kind of persistence and motivation necessary to improve your game.
A book to rank with Doyle Brunson's Super System and David Sklansky's The Theory of Poker, Phil Gordon's Little Green Book deserves a spot on the shelf of every serious student of the game.

The Poker Stop-It List wasn't written by a mega pro. It was written by a fellow human who just loves (and now crushes) the game. I’m an established author. I created a blog followed by millions, as well as various books. Over the years, my followers never knew that I had a secret life playing poker. I wrote about parenting, relationships, life, introspective topics, and shared lots of opinions and stories. My gift has always been putting complex concepts and human dynamics into words that others connect with and understand. So, why not do it with poker, too?

There is a lot of money to be made at small-stakes no-limit hold'em because...surprise, surprise...most of the players aren't very good. However, few players understand exactly how to exploit these games. Competent players who generally play larger stakes will, of course, beat them. But they won't beat them for nearly as much as they ought to. Why? Because they don't understand how to adjust correctly.

These deeply-ingrained habits lead them to make mistakes. The problem is that these situations won't often arise at the table by chance - you have to make them happen. Exploitative Play in Live Poker is a ground-breaking work that teaches you how to create the circumstances where your opponents will be likely to blunder and how to exploit them when they do.

Story
In Super Bowl XLIX, Seahawks coach Pete Carroll made one of the most controversial calls in football history: With 26 seconds remaining, and trailing by four at the Patriots' one-yard line, he called for a pass instead of a handing off to his star running back. The pass was intercepted, and the Seahawks lost. Critics called it the dumbest play in history. But was the call really that bad? Or did Carroll actually make a great move that was ruined by bad luck? Even the best decision doesn't yield the best outcome every time.

And no matter how hard they try, they can't get it back. Until now. In The Mental Game of Poker 2, author and renowned poker mental game coach Jared Tendler breaks down the zone and delivers actionable steps to help players get there consistently.

Now, in Winning Ugly, Gilbert teaches recreational players how to win more often without necessarily even changing their strokes. The key to success, he says, is to become a better thinking player - to recognize, analyze, and capitalize. Game theory means rigorous strategic thinking. It’s the art of anticipating your opponent’s next moves, knowing full well that your rival is trying to do the same thing to you. Though parts of game theory involve simple common sense, much is counterintuitive, and it can only be mastered by developing a new way of seeing the world. Using a diverse array of rich case studies - from pop culture, TV, movies, sports, politics, and history - the authors show how nearly every business and personal interaction has a game-theory component to it.

What’s the number one thing stopping you from playing your best tennis? Ian Westermann, founder of the world’s #1 online tennis instruction portal, Essentialtennis.com, will confidently say it’s an obstacle you probably never thought of: The ball. The whole point of tennis is to hit the ball over the net and in, so how can the ball be the thing that’s standing in the way? In fact, this is why the ball is such an impediment: your desire to hit a good shot, with the right mix of power and spin, to a specific spot on the court, prevents you from striking the ball the way you should.

Story
What’s the number one thing stopping you from playing your best tennis? Ian Westermann, founder of the world’s #1 online tennis instruction portal, Essentialtennis.com, will confidently say it’s an obstacle you probably never thought of: The ball. The whole point of tennis is to hit the ball over the net and in, so how can the ball be the thing that’s standing in the way? In fact, this is why the ball is such an impediment: your desire to hit a good shot, with the right mix of power and spin, to a specific spot on the court, prevents you from striking the ball the way you should.

To be a golfer is to tinker-with everything from equipment to grip to swing. But one thing most players don't give enough attention to is the mental game. Psychologists aren't a new phenomenon in golf, but Dr. Michael Lardon is a different breed of performance coach. Instead of sending his players into a losing battle against emotion, indecision, and fear on the golf course, he shows them how to organize their thoughts and use them for maximum performance.

It is no secret that more than two-thirds of the shots a golfer makes are shorts ones: putts, chips, and pitches. Long drives may garner applause, but whether a golfer wants to win the Masters or just five bucks from a friend on Saturday morning, it’s the little shots that make the difference. In The Unstoppable Golfer, Dr. Bob Rotella takes the same wisdom and experience that have worked for clients like Davis Love III and David Toms to help you master this special art of short shots and avoid all the frustration out of this increasingly challenging element of the game.

Phil Gordon's Little Green Book
I thought Phil Gordon's Little Green Book was very good. Altough it doesn't offer a lot of specific details on how to play your hand it does give a lot of practical information including: playing your hand preflop, postflop, on the tun and on the river, etc... Overall it was an interesting audio book. I would recommend it.

best audio poker book you'll find
If you could sum up Phil Gordon's Little Green Book in three words, what would they be?
This is the perfect book for the dead money player to improve to a winning player. Succinct, easy to listen to, and gives a great foundation for stratagy and disipline . Doesn't drone on like other books. Has turned me into a cash game winner. Phil Gordon is also a great narrator. Ya think it might be worth the price of an ante?

What did you love best about Phil Gordon's Little Green Book?
Easy to comprehend and great lessons on the game. I had the book before purchasing the audio version to listen to on my commute. I will listen and re-listen to this book no doubt.
Any additional comments?
Outside of Doyle Brunson's "Super System", this is my favorite poker book. By far the best poker book on Audible as of 12/2013.

Great book
I have a lot of respect for Phil Gordon because he's such a solid pro. Very respectful and knowledgeable on the game. I listened to this book for about 2 weeks straight because I knew I was going to miss things. You must listen to this multiple times to get the information properly. I listened in preparation for my trip to the poker tables 2 hours away from home and I had a winning session. I played $1-$2 no-limit holdem and came home with $500 profit. To those that say it's only for tournament play is mistaken. Most of his advice pertains to all games, be it live or tournament. Thanks Phil. I will continue to read this because every time I do, I get more information.

Entertaining without getting too technical.
I loved the book. I am going to replay it soon. I loved the instruction and strategic aspect, stories about experiences were very entertaining. My only real criticism is the book ended too soon. I would've liked to hear more real life story examples to go along with each strategy. I remember the strategies better when I can relate them to an entertaining story.

Great book!
I actually bought the book first and was completely impressed. Of course there is going to be too much stuff to remember (poker is a very complex game), so I decided to get the audio version so I could easily review the material whenever I get a chance. Every time I listen to this I manage to find some kind of hole in my game or a great nugget of information to exploit someone with. This is a truly great book that can be listened to over and over. I have read quite a few books on poker and in my opinion this is the next best thing to Harrington on Holdem (which would be impractical for audio).
