Following a humiliating experience involving the man she thought she’d marry, Iris Tredwick signs up to the Wrens in order to escape and - hopefully - find ‘the right sort’ of man to please her mother. After a bumpy start, Iris manages to befriend outspoken Mary and dreamer Sally as they are sent to their first posting - in Orkney. There she meets engineer Rob, whose flirtatious nature both charms and confounds straight-laced Iris. Much more appropriate for her is local doctor Stewart, if only she felt the same spark for him as she does for Rob.

great series
I listened to Pengarron Land on just a whim for I love historical fiction and this time setting.
I fell in love with the characters and their love triangle and couldn't wait to listen to the rest of the series. I was not disappointed on how it ended and it really showed how choices in ones life can change the fate of one family for generations. I did think overall it had a lot of emphasis on sex and that a little more depth of the characters would have been nice without so much dwelling on their lust. The reader was great and very believeable for each character man or woman. Don't start Pengarron Land unless you want to hear all 4 books and then you will be lost in the 1750's for many hours.

A good listen
This is the first in the Pengarron series and I enjoyed it immensly. An interesting story full of romance and adventure, set in beautiful Cormwall.
I look forward to listening to all in the series which fortunately for me, Audible has purchased.
The reader, Patricia Gallimore is excellent.
