About this listen
"He shows us the connection between personal inner peace and peace on earth." (His Holiness the Dalai Lama)
Known and loved worldwide for his teachings on mindfulness and compassion, Thich Nhat Hanh was once nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize by Martin Luther King, Jr. In Peacemaking, this beloved Zen master returns to the theme that first brought him to the world's attention: peace and how to embody it.
Looking deeply into the roots of anger, Thich Nhat Hanh emerges with real solutions to the violence we commit against ourselves and each other. He uses the philosophy of nondualism to show that we are not separate but one with our feelings and the world, and he teaches that the awareness of anger, not its suppression, is key to its control. From the keys to transforming anger through meditation to putting kindness into action to heal the wounds between nations, Peacemaking is Thich Nhat Hanh's personal testament to the spiritual and practical power of nonviolence.
Topics include: interbeing; the effects of awareness; liberation through insight; cultivating nonviolence toward self; understanding your enemies; what the Vietnam War taught us; mindfulness and ecology; restoring yourself; kindness in action; ideal solitude; teaching children peacemaking; and more.

Love might not be what we think it is. We all seek the happiness that comes from loving and being loved, yet we often find ourselves dissatisfied in our relationships and unable to grasp the cause. Thich Nhat Hanh here shows the way to overcome our recurrent obstacles to love - by learning to be mindful, open, and present with ourselves and others. As he explains, "training is needed in order to love properly; and to be able to give happiness and joy, you must practice deep looking directed toward the person you love."

We begin with two chants from the monastics. Mindfulness practice of the sequoia tree, the sky. Thich Nhat Hahn speaks of an Albert Camus’ book called The Stranger. Here, too, the prisoner talks about truly seeing the sky. This is awakening. Camus called this a moment of consciousness. Many people are living as if we are dead. The blue sky is a wonder of life. Awakening. Can we wake up? Mindful breathing. Resurrection. From forgetfulness to mindfulness. The miracle of the resurrection. This is not dogma. When we wake up, then we can get in touch with the wonders of life.

Thich Nhat Hanh‘s Profound Peace-Msking
Thay‘s teachings on peace-making in his own voice are eternally profound. His views on the wars in Vietnam and Iraq carry over into future wars. His insight on peace is powerful.
