About this listen

A chance meeting with a handsome stranger turns into a whirlwind affair that gets everyone talking in this New York Times best seller.

Dating is the last thing on Olivia Monroe's mind when she moves to LA to start her own law firm. But when she meets a gorgeous man at a hotel bar and they spend the entire night flirting, she discovers too late that he is none other than hotshot junior Senator Max Powell. Olivia has zero interest in dating a politician, but when a cake arrives at her office with the cutest message, she can't resist - it is chocolate cake, after all.

Olivia is surprised to find that Max is sweet, funny, and noble - not just some privileged white politician, as she assumed him to be. Because of Max's high-profile job, they start seeing each other secretly, which leads to clandestine dates and silly disguises. But when they finally go public, the intense media scrutiny means people are now digging up her rocky past and criticizing her job, even her suitability as a trophy girlfriend. Olivia knows what she has with Max is something special, but is it strong enough to survive the heat of the spotlight?

Thoughtful Story

This story was a little slower than her usual work but I still loved it once it picked up. I can't wait for her next story.

Another Beautiful Love Story

I really enjoy Jasmine Guillory, her love stories are sweet and the characters are not too complicated. It's a real 'feel good " story.

Excellent Book

This is my favorite book in Guillorylandia! I thought it would be hard to beat Nic and Carlos's book, but this one did. I loved it!

Interesting Yet Slightly Frustrating

OK, so I will try to make this short. I do want to address some of the other reviewer‘s comments first.

It always frustrates me when I read reviews for books and see that people are just being difficult. For example, the narrator was horrible. The sex was bland. The sex was explicit. The book was meh. There’s nothing wrong with honest opinions about the story. This is what people like me want to see so I can make a informed decision on whether I buy a book or not. So if you felt there was no chemistry or that the main character was frustrating, I get that. The issue was that multiple complaints were just juvenile. I don’t think that’s OK. I am not an author. I am just a lowly nurse. However, I don’t think it’s OK to deliberately try to tank someone just for the sake of tanking someone. Ok, I’m done with my rant.

OK so here’s my review. I liked the book. This is only my second book by her. I saw a few of her books and they kept calling to me so I finally decided to read one.

Olivia much like her sister frustrated the hell out of me. I felt that she had not healed from the bad decision she made 20 years earlier. This clearly was why she was so rigid. I understand where she was coming from but the main blowup they had felt like and overreaction on her part. Again I felt that her reaction, and everything else really, came from what happened when she was younger. Having said all that, I was pleasantly surprised by the book. The story was well written. So I look forward to reading more books in the series.

Yeah I know it was long. It was worth it though. Y’all can admit it. Toodles!

Wonderfully light and charming.

I’ve listened to all of Ms. Guillory’s books and I’ve loved them all. The books are a perfect escape and make you cheer for charterers. Thank you and keep writing them!

Max and Olivia are my new favorite couple. Who knew cakes and pies could be so romantic?!
