About this listen

First-century Rome is not the quiet, orderly city that it pretends to be. Over on the Quirinal Hill, a naive young girl has died, and there's a suggestion that she was poisoned by a love potion.

Looking into the matter, Flavia Albia, daughter of Marcus Didius Falco, soon discovers the young girl was a handful, and her so-called friends were not as friendly as they should have been. When a friend of Albia's is murdered, things take an even more serious turn.

Another great and pithy adventure in the world of the Falcos

The author has really caught her stride with this second set of novels, this one about the daughter of Falco. She carries on her fathers work as a private investigator in first century room, Domitian now being the tyrant- emperor. One of the many things I love about her writing is how contemporary it feels, how relatable. This story of spoiled young people getting up to no good could’ve been lifted from today’s headlines, and why not? Rome was in its day quite equivalent to the pinnacle, if we can call us that, of western civilization in modern times. Suspenseful, gritty, hilarious, I love these books.

Great story - timeless in topics!

I found the story's topics timeless, in that they could occur in an century and in most backgrounds.

Love Our Flavia Albia!

The series gets better each time. The only issue I had was the vast number of Latin named characters that sometimes mulled together. Still, a wonderful author of Historical Fiction delivers again!
