About this listen

For many Christians, apathy can feel inescapable. They experience a lack of motivation and a growing indifference to important things, with some even struggling to care about anything at all. This listlessness can spill over into our spiritual lives, making it difficult to pray, read the Bible, or engage in our communities. Have we resigned ourselves to apathy? Do we recognize it as a sin? How can we fight against it?

In Overcoming Apathy, theology professor Uche Anizor explains what apathy is and gives practical, biblical advice to break the cycle. Inspired by his conversations with young Christians as well as his own experiences with apathy, Anizor takes a fresh look at this widespread problem and its effect on spiritual maturity. First, he highlights the prevalence of apathy in our culture, using examples from TV, movies, and social media. Next, he turns to theologians, philosophers, and psychologists to further define apathy. Finally, Anizor explores causes, cures, and healthy practices to boldly overcome apathy in daily life, taking believers from spiritual lethargy to Christian zeal. This short audiobook is an excellent resource for those struggling with apathy as well as parents, mentors, and friends who want to support someone in need.

Important content in bite sized pieces

I really enjoyed this book. I really needed more help in the apathetic areas in my. I’ve struggled with it for years but could never put my finger on it. This book does a great job defining apathy, exploring possible causes, and how to practically take steps of faith toward healing with the Gospel always being at the center. I look forward to applying these concepts towards my life.

Fantastic Book on Christian Formation

It’s funny to admit this, but I actually bought this book many months ago, and only just got around to reading it. How’s that for apathy!

When I did read it, I wish that I had done so sooner! This is a fantastic little book that is about so much more than just fighting through the blasé feelings that sometimes overcome us in our faith walk. This book touches into real, actionable guidance on Christian formation in so many ways.

Highly recommend this for anyone looking for a rejuvenation of their faith!

Practical, Insightful, and Encouraging

This book strikes a keen balance between comprehensive and succinct. I found the diagnostic section to be particularly of help, and the practical outcomes definitely spoke a word of encouragement for where I'm at and have been.

Compelling, Convicting, Inspiring, Solid

As someone who has struggled with apathy throughout my life, the message of this book is an encouragement to my soul. Don’t let the “The same story regurgitated” review dissuade you. We all combat apathy throughout our lives and need to keep the battle of it in front of us every day.

Fine Little Book

The reader sounds like AI. The book was a worthy read for the truly apathetic, but for me lacked a bit of focus on the subject itself.

New title for old subject

Mediocre rehash of spiritual disciplines. Surprised it was rated so well by CT and others. Pull yourself up by the bootstraps is the general theme.
