About this listen

Friends to lovers, with a supernatural twist - Suzanne Brockmann is back with a stand-alone romantic comedy that's soon to be a feature film starring Jason T. Gaffney and Kevin Held.

Henry's been in love with his best friend, Malcolm, since college, but after he kisses Mal on Halloween night, things go desperately wrong. Awkward turns to just plain weird when Mal mysteriously vanishes. And weird gets freaky when Henry starts to wonder if he's being haunted by Mal's ghost.

Henry's other friends think he's losing it - that Mal's just run from conflict - but freaky turns to full-on crazy when, with the help of a "spirit guide", Henry casts a spell that allows him - and only him - to see and hear Malcolm, who's been right there in his house the entire time.

If Mal really is a lingering spirit, he won't move on until he completes some undetermined "unfinished business". And Mal, who's been in love with Henry since forever, too, assumes his task is to help his best friend woo and fall in love with another man.

But sometimes, things aren't what they seem. Being invisible doesn't always mean you're dead, and love really can conquer all.

Great Listen

Oh I do love a crazy plot and true dual narration. Henry's narrator is a bit OTT but it grows on you. This is a fun listen that had me laughing out loud and made my commute bearable!

Really cute ghost story

It's cute, funny, heartfelt, and well performed. Friends to lovers trope, ghost story, a little magic, and epic sex. I found myself laughing out loud and talking back to the audio because I was so into the book. Definitely going to watch the movie.

Great story from a new to me author

The narration was done by two actors and not known narrators, and I thought they both did a good job, but the narration was handled differently than usual with the two actors voicing particular characters in every chapter instead of alternating. I don't know how the editing was done, but one narrator seemed to have a much louder narration while the other seemed like a whisper at times. It is my only complaint as the story was really fun and a supernatual mystery as well. I definitely recommend this story.

A Ghostly Romance

Out of Body is a sweet romance with a paranormal twist. Henry and Malcom are best friends and also they are in love with each other. Unfortunately, they haven’t confessed their feelings to each other and this leads to some misunderstandings. The initial plot set up is a familiar trope that a lot of different romance books use, but what makes this book different is the paranormal element that’s thrown in. Malcolm, the clueless crush, ends up as a ghost bound to Henry. This, as you can deduce, is a huge obstacle for their relationship.

The book was well written, and the plot was interesting although straight forward. The book has a lot of romcom elements to it, and I found it amusing. However, I wasn’t blown away by the plot nor the characters. The audiobook narration was done well by both narrators, and the audiobook production had no problems or errors.

Great Banter

So I love outrageous romance plots. I blame that on watching soap operas with my mom at a very young age. So if there is amnesia, freaky Friday syndrome, ghosts, werewolves, time travel, etc I have to give it a read/listen. This book did not disappoint!
I really liked that even though this was a dual perspective narrative both narrators spoke their own dialogue. That is extremely rare for most audiobooks and it definitely made the overall experience fun. The banter and sarcastic asides made me laugh out loud. The audible book cover says “soon to be a movie” and I can’t wait to watch!!

Funny and unique

this story was hilarious and a unique take on the familiar friends to lovers trope. Duet narration! Both narrators did a great job. I would have liked to see how they address the credit card situation but it's a very small detail.

not what you might expect -- but fun

I'm not used to Suzanne Brockman being so lighthearted. Prior to listening to this book, I'd only read her Navy Seal books, which have humor but are not by any means lighthearted. I felt like the narrators where a little clunky, but the story pulled me along anyway. This is one of those books that would make a great movie, i.e., lots of what would amount to physical humor and almost slapstick ambiance. Don't get me wrong. There's a sweet love story here, too, but it's couched in laugh-with-me humor and all the more fun for that.
