Publisher's summary

The purpose of this audiobook is to declutter your life, choose best in class examples to follow, and do the small things to make your life more pleasant. This lecture was given at Wellesley College about how to enter the "real world," which the author emphasized college certainly is, and make their life better. The "Just Do It" philosophy, promoted by Nike and adopted by so many others, permeates the book. Good today is better than great tomorrow, with the author commenting that waiting for great tomorrow usually leads to just falling further behind. The tracks deal with simplifying your life as Henry David Thoreau pointed out was so essential to one's well being. This is a how to book with suggestions ranging from keeping a coat hanger in your car to keep your sweater or coat clean and neat, as well as available for weather changes, to a 24 month plan to put your life into total order. The audiobook emphasizes making conscious choices of what you allow or keep in your life in order to eliminate those things you do not find worth the effort and/or expense to do.

I've listened to this several times

Not only do I love his voice. Maybe the dad I always wanted, that I could look up to and who gave me advice. Well that never happened, that's why books like this are so important! Common sense, calm practical advice for success from an extraordinary person who is very down to earth. I would highly recommend.

Great Guy Voice

What made the experience of listening to Organize Yourself the most enjoyable?

The guy's voice.

How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?

I would have like more ideas and how to's and examples.

What about Deaver Brown’s performance did you like?

I like that he sounds like just a great down to earth, just get it done kind of guy.

What’s an idea from the book that you will remember?

He suggested using online banking / bill pay to simplify paying bills, which I plan to look into.

Any additional comments?

I just really like this man's voice. He sounds believable, like an average working man who knows how to get things done plain and simple. He just sounds like a nice guy.

This guy is an idiot- (sexist, prejudice, dumb)

I am not going to waist a lot of time on this...

Quotes like the following say it all: "I tell my daughters that no man likes to hear whining, so don't do it ok..." or "I like real paper calendars because you can see them..." He also talks about how democrats are less organized than republicans how you should keep a coat hanger in your car (gee, thanks).

He seems to say "just do it" after each item one might like to improve on, such as "Look, you need a clean apartment, so just do it, ok..." or "look, just don't multi-task... (good luck.)

Buying his will be a waist of time.

Can someone give me my $3 back?

Don't Waste Your Money

The speaker is just barely tollerable to listen to. He gasp for air between sentences which is and only slightly annoying. He mixes politics with a bad example regarding Presidents on such a general level I thought I was listeng to Rush. He compares Regan who in the history of our country got the US into more debt than it has ever had since inception in just his first term. Then during his second term doubled that total in his second term, not to mention ethical concerns. Clinton who with the democratic congress was able to get us out of the depression or recession depending on your economics background and made the US significantly more prosperous than the country has ever been. I order a book hoping it has some knowlege. Everything is basic cookie cutter. Add the inacurate right wing comments. Very annoying.

Meh

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

Different reader, better content. Nothing here that hasn't already been said, and this guy doesn't even say it very well.

What was most disappointing about Deaver Brown’s story?

No meat there. I don't know who he is, but he strikes me as an arrogant guy. He's merely stating what has worked for him with no research to back up his claims.

How could the performance have been better?

Different narrator. However, the content might sound utterly ridiculous in a different narrator's voice!

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

The book is less than an hour and some of the info is repeated. I was disappointed that there wasn't much there.
