Janet works as a telephone operator in 1950s Richmond, Va. When she patches through a call for help from a child reporting an intruder at an isolated farm, she realizes she knows the family. Enlisting the help of the man she desires, she makes an emergency trip to help someone in danger - or is it, really, to help herself?

Loved the short story. Although it’s a time when my parents grew up I always felt like I could connect. Operator able to get in time to help a family in need….I’ll leave the rest to your listening. I Highly suggest this story!!

Awesome

This short tale of an old time telephone operator that overhears a terrified child making an emergency call to report an intruder in their home is mysterious and interesting. Janet enlists the help of the man she believes she is in love with to go and help her rescue the child, whose parents have both been brutally assaulted, and then the story takes some unusual twists and turns. Since I was born in the 1950s, I can clearly remember the days of party lines and telephone operators. Janet got to the house before the police did, since she knew the family, saving the lives of the parents and protecting the frightened child. Good short listen.
