Wow!

law-enforcement, lawyers, conspiracy, framed, murder, murder-investigation, family-dynamics, friendship, dogs, contract-killer, situational-humor, snark-fest, verbal-humor, ex-cop, greed*****

Take a wisemouthed lawyer who can afford to take semi retirement by only representing innocent clients while supporting an animal shelter, add in that his wife is no longer law enforcement but works as his private investigator and more and you have the baseline for this convoluted mystery. There are many other people who help Andy find out what the truth really is and make it courtroom admissible. This one is kind of scary in the *it is uncomfortably possible* sense. No spoilers, and the snarkfest keeps it from being too realistic. Lots of twists and turns in the plot and the characters certainly are, but there's no need for spoilers or an attempt at a summary. I found it to be a real brain grabber and it is one in a series of interesting and well written mysteries. At no time does the reader feel lost or as if missing background info.
Grover Gardner narrates this complicated snarkfest very well!

Thank you David Rosenfelt

What made the experience of listening to One Dog Night the most enjoyable?

The reader is very talented in carrying David's words through to the exciting conclusion.

Who was your favorite character and why?

While Andy Carpenter doesn't want to work, he tackles each case with gusto. He has a wonderful sense of humor which lightens the otherwise heady concept of taking on a what appears to be a hopeless case.

Which character – as performed by Grover Gardner – was your favorite?

See above.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

Dog loving, work hating lawyer; Andy Carpenter won't let an innocent man pay for another man's sins.

Love Andy Carpenter and Grover Gardner!

The Andy Carpenter stories are among my favorites. The stories are released fast enough for me. I need more and fast! Grover Gardner IS Andy Carpenter. I enjoy his interpretations of the other characters as well. Gardner's timing for the jokes is genuis. This story ranks among the top of the series. It gives the brief history of Tara's origins. Andy's antagonistic relationships with the district attorney and various judges are great. His relationship with Laurie, Sam, Marcus, Edna, etc. are the meat and potatoes of the series. His love for Tara is the icing on the cake. Most dog lovers have had a Tara once. The Las Vegas mob connection was a bit far fetched and uncharacteristic of the series. Treking through the desert in Texas was also a ho-hum. Best to stay on the East Coast and Midwest for a realistic setting. HIghly recommended.

Oh Andy….LOL

I love Andy Carpenter (he is such a dork) and after reading this book, I have the urge to reread (listen) to all the previous ones. David Rosenfelt has scored again. So imaginative the characters pop off the pages.

Sketchy side plot

Any additional comments?

I love the Andy, Tara and Lori aspect of the series, and Grover Gardner really makes the books come alive. The big WMD unifying theme (without giving anything away) felt like it was bolted on to the book after it was almost finished. It reminded me of a National Lampoon article (
