Publisher's summary

When two of his American employees were held hostage in a heavily guarded prison fortress in Iran, one man took matters into his own hands: American businessman H. Ross Perot. His team consisted of a group of volunteers from the executive ranks of his corporation, hand-picked and trained by a retired Green Beret officer. To free the imprisoned Americans, they would face incalculable odds on a mission that only true heroes would have dared.

Amazing story

I remember reading this book when it was first released. It was the first time I heard the name Ross Perot or EDS Systems. I stayed up all night and read it all the way through. Listening to the book, I had a little trouble with some of the Iranian names and finally wrote the key ones down. That could be because I'm a visual learner. After that, the story was as enthralling as I remembered. It is an amazing tale of the president and top management of a US software company who go through commando training (abbreviated training) and travel to Iran to rescue other company executives being held by the iranian government. I mean, how unbelievable is that??? I sure can't imagine that happening today. No matter what you think of Mr. Perot's politics, you have to admire his resolve to take care of his employees. You won't be sorry if you get this book.

great story

read too fast. should be slightly slower as we can easily speed up but can only half the speed, distorting it.

Enjoyable with 0.75 speed

Speed needed to be slowed down, otherwise it is impossible to follow the story. Not sure why they edited 4 different readers together. Story overall interesting, but less heroic than I expected.

Bad audio

Poorly done narrating. Seemed AI generated. Over all store a lot like his other books. Like Jackdaws, Triple, lie down with lions. If the audio is overhauled over I’d give the book all four stars.

Worst narrator I have ever heard

Is there anything you would change about this book?

I have downloaded almost three hundred books from Audible and this was the first that I found impossible to listen to. The narrator seems to be on a mission to make a tewnty-hour read into a ten-hour one. I gave up after two chapters!

What didn’t you like about the narrators’s performance?

He read like he had to go and pick the kids up from school and he was already late.

Was On Wings of Eagles worth the listening time?

No because of the narrator
