Publisher's summary

On the day her daughter leaves for college, Anne Colwater's husband of 20 years announces he wants a divorce. Her roles of wife and mother suddenly gone, Annie retreats to her childhood home of Mystic, Washington, to heal. There she finds her old friend Nick, suddenly widowed and unable to cope with his emotionally scarred young daughter, Izzie.

Annie agrees to look after Izzie, and soon finds herself caring for both father and daughter with a joy and passion she never expected - and she finds her love returned with a fervor she had never even hoped for. But love is never simple, and it is not until Annie learns a hard lesson from her own grown daughter that she finds the strength to claim the happiness she has earned.

Not One of Hannah’s Best

I love Kristen Hannah. This novel was disappointing. Too trite, too predictable and too schmaltzy.

Still looking for the Conclusion/Resolution

What did you like best about On Mystic Lake? What did you like least?

I liked the small town appeal of Mystic Lake. Least liked of all: No resolution.

Would you be willing to try another book from Kristin Hannah? Why or why not?

Not too sure, unless there is a sequel to this one to conclude the story.

What does Susan Ericksen bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

She has a nice narrative voice.

Did On Mystic Lake inspire you to do anything?

Look for a sequel.

Any additional comments?

I don't understand how an author can come up with a good plot, and then ruin her own story by going sideways. It could use a rewrite with an good ending.

Unfinished Ending

Really were in to this story, the characters and the emotional ups and downs, but the ending left us wanting. We feel the author should have ended the book with the reunion with Nick and Izzy instead of using a turn signal onto a highway in their direction. The author made you so much a part of Nick and Izzy's lives and they deserved more than what they in the end. Annie going to Mexico, that was absolutely ridiculous.

Sweet but predictable.

Bought by mistake but listened out of curiosity. Loved the narrator but the romance novel just isn't my genre. Having said that, the book was well written. Language flowed, conveyed the intended emotions.

It was just OK.

I was torn between 3 & 4 stars. She's written better but I've read much worse. She is always my 'go to' author though because she's never written anything I just couldn't read.

Good story

I always enjoy Kristin Hannah books. The narrator Susan Erickson was great as usual. The characters each had their own unique personalities that made the story come together. There were times throughout the story, however that I thought i couldn’t listen any more. There was so much detail especially describing her ride into Mystic Lake. I get it, I thought to myself. There were other areas too that seemed as though the details were there to just make the story last longer. The story could actually be a true story in someone’s life. I would recommend reading it.
