A news-making and electrifying portrait of sports phenomenon Caitlin Clark, whose dramatic ascendance in college basketball and now in the WNBA has captured the attention of media and fans unlike any other female team-sport athlete in history—by award-winning USA TODAY columnist and television commentator Christine Brennan.

America has never seen an athlete quite like Caitlin Clark. Attracting record-shattering attendance and TV ratings, she has riveted the nation with her famous logo threes and thrilling passes and changed how fans across the country view women’s sports. Drawing on dozens of extensive interviews and exclusive, behind-the-scenes reporting, veteran journalist Christine Brennan narrates Clark’s rise—including the formative experiences that led to her scoring more points than any woman or man in major college basketball history—and delivers fascinating new details about Clark’s Olympic snub by USA Basketball, the safety concerns around her that led to charter flights for all players, the WNBA’s lack of preparation for heightened national scrutiny, and troubling outbreaks of jealousy and resentment as a white player became the top story in a predominantly Black league.

The 2024 season was a watershed. Always taking the high road in the face of criticism, Clark proceeded to write herself into WNBA record books as one of the league’s most talented rookies ever. And her winning persona—on full display whether surrounded by children begging for autographs or reporters hanging on her every word—made Clark such a fan favorite that increasingly larger arenas needed to be found to accommodate the hordes who traveled hundreds, and sometimes thousands, of miles to watch her play.

Clark arrived as a sports and cultural icon a little more than fifty years after the passage of Title IX, the 1972 law that opened the floodgates for girls and women to play sports in America. On Her Game is a sports story, certainly, but it’s also the story of a nation falling in love with what it has created because of that law—millions of new athletes, led by the magical Caitlin Clark.

What more can be said about a all around great person. It was good to hear some of the back noise on events that unfolded in the media. From one Iowan to another…..not only have you made Iowa a proud state. You make Iowans proud to be Iowans.

Awesome

Truth, honesty, integrity and respect; words that describe your book. Thank you, Christine Brennan, for your tireless support and dedication to women’s sports for all these years and for many more years to come!

Phenomenal read!

To understand how badly the WNBA and its players whiffed on Caitin Clark just flip the races. Imagine the same popularity and college career but Clark is black and also gay BUT entering a 74% white, mostly straight league and treated the same way. Dissed, belittled with multiple cheap shots.

Most players and sports media would call those white players RACISTS.

No more petty, jealous unprofessional "professional sports league" on the planet.

Will the WNBA change? Unless the NBA forces those necessary changes - doubtful.

This book is a microcosm of post 2020 America. Most who don't like this book (haven't read it) imply or call Brennan - RACIST.

That's the playbook.

Christine Brennan is the ONLY honest journalist covering the WNBA.

Too many have refused to acknowledge the once in a generation player that is Caitlin Clark. Christine Brennan provides all of the facts from the importance of Title IX for all of us women athletes to what it means to elevate your game to a level beyond anyone's wildest expectations of a basketball player, man or especially woman. The WNBA, the Olympics Committee and the WNBPA should all be ashamed of themselves, especially for refusing to comment or be named with comments for this book. None of the people in leadership positions of these organizations have an understanding of what it means to lead. When you have a talent like Caitlin Clark, you embrace her, not disgrace her. Christine Brennan drops the mic on all that went down with these organizations and the incredible maturity of Caitlin off the court while excelling on it. I also found myself harkening back to some of these big plays retold about Clark, her record-breaking moments, last minute shots, and emotional outbursts are wonderful.

If you’re a hardcore CC fan like myself, it feels like a review more than anything insightful. However, it’s still great to have as a sports enthusiast because it does provide more insight of the year 2024 and what she went through and giving more clarity why the WNBA players are they way they are. It’s a deeper history why jealousy and racism runs rampant in the league. Also, shows how graceful Caitlin Clark is as a person, Well written and researched by Christine Brennan.

It’s a great book for those who don’t know Caitlin Clark
