About this listen

After a wonderful visit with her sister's family, Miss Judith Grantham is returning home. She anticipates a dull ending to the Christmas holidays. An overturned mail coach blocks the icy road, and she takes up one of the passengers - a young girl who turns out to be a runaway heiress.

Judith is astonished when some of the other passengers turn up at her doorstep, in need of shelter from an impending snowstorm. Suddenly, she is hostess to a motley and ill-assorted group.

Things become even more interesting when the runaway heiress's guardian turns up, too. He is Sir Peregrine Ashford - the man she jilted five years ago.

Delightful!

Story: 5 stars

Surprisingly well-developed characters for being a novella!

A stranded group of mail coach passengers show up on the doorstep of Miss Grantham, an attractive young heiress with her own estate.

Soon afterwards, the man she jilted 5 years earlier shows up, as well, searching for his runaway niece amongst the stranded people.

Thus begins a novella full of miscommunication, comedy and, eventually, requited love.

Ms. Buck writes such wonderfully detailed stories, that the circumstances and the the characters all seem plausible and authentic.

She is favorite author of mine!

Narration: 5 stars

I’ll admit that when I first heard Mr. Bradley’s slow and careful narration, I wondered if I would be able to continue. But, honestly, his voice wove a spell and I was soon drawn in by the atmosphere he created. His female voices are believable and he reads with better emotion than many a voice actor. I truly enjoyed this narration!
