About this listen

Brought to you by Penguin.

Ogres are bigger than you. Ogres are stronger than you. Ogres rule the world.

It's always idyllic in the village until the landlord comes to call. Because the landlord is an Ogre. And Ogres rule the world, with their size and strength and appetites. It's always been that way. It's the natural order of the world. And they only eat people sometimes.

But when the headman's son, Torquell, dares lift his hand against the landlord's son, he sets himself on a path to learn the terrible truth about the Ogres, and about the dark sciences that ensured their rule.

I've said things like "I like Jack London because he doesn't waste words and goes for the heart of the story instead". But I've gotten into buying audible books based, in part, on how much comute time ( I drive over an hour and a half a day) the book will occupy. I almost passed on this one even though I should have know better. Tchaikovsky can ramble on with complex world building and generation spanning plot lines. That is awesome for housework and drive time and is probably more profitable for an author making a living but I had forgotten how satisfying a well told tale, as long as it needs to be and not a sentence longer, can be.

I almost skipped Ogres cause it's short...opps

The second-person narrative style is uncommon and took me a little while to get used to but it was worth it.
I'd like to see more stories set in this world.

Tchaikovsky does not dissapoint

Starts as great sci-fi, turns into a furious allegory, and ends with a type of twist I’ve never seen before. Astonishing stuff.

Really great

Another amazing tale from AT. I loved the twists and discoveries. The ending was particularly gratifying.

This is a great story with many twist and turns. Off the top of my head there were at least four seriously surprising plot twist and they all made sense and furthered the story. It was enjoyable and satisfying.

Short but very fun

whether the author knows it or not he's hit the nail on the head when it come to humanities inclination towards oligarchs. The author also gets right why progressives should never be trusted.

surprisingly accurate portals of the human condit

This is one of those stories that just hits on all cylinders. Excellent reader, excellent production, brilliant writing. I'd go so far as to say it should be taught in schools because of the subject matter. Just amazing.

WOW. ABSOLUTELY WONDERFUL.

Yes you can see some stuff coming but the world is laid out in away that makes you want to go on. Remind me of the Tripods and this is more a YA. Nice break from doom and sex. Great what if story

Great story
