About this listen

This exclusive audiobook short story looks back - way back - to where it all began for Odd Thomas and Stormy Llewellyn, two souls who are destined to be together forever.

Amid the dizzying rides, tantalizing games of chance, and fanciful attractions of a state fair, two teenage sweethearts on the cusp of life and love's pleasures find their way to a shadowy carnival tent brimming with curiosities. There, from the bizarre and enthralling Gypsy Mummy, a mechanized merchant of dreams and prognosticator of tomorrows, the young couple learns what fate promises for them. But fate, for Odd Thomas and Stormy Llewellyn, is something altogether different: full of dark corners, sharp edges, and things no seer or soothsayer could ever anticipate.

And for Odd Thomas, a gallant fry cook from a sleepy California desert town, the future beckons - to listen to unquiet spirits, pursue unsettling mysteries, and learn shocking truths...for a purpose far greater than himself.

I’ve admittedly never read a book by Dean Koontz. I’m so glad I do! His voice is seamless, storytelling clear and concise, and I love his mix of quirky sweet characters that make the unbelievable seem believable. Definitely a fan!

Koontz gives us this bite size taste of one of literatures weirdest heroes in this audiobook exclusive. It’s straight to the action but we get plenty of quiet time with Odd, Stormy, and even Elvis. Great for new fans of his work or constant readers who wanna flesh out Koontz universe.

A very ODD prequel

I have to tell you I didn't mind finding this wonderful P.S. of a novella containing a story about my favorite Koontz character, our hero Odd Thomas, a young fry cook from a small town with a few surprising abilities that mostly involve communicating with the dead.
Adding a new story to a series previously considered wrapped up is a conceit I will happily allow in my world. This character is my favorite for a reason. Packed with empathy, love and a big screen heroism you don't always find in youth, alongside a comical wink you don't always find in Koontz's sometimes dark universe, it adds up to a joyful mystery packed full of likable characters.
If Mr. Koontz wanted to do a new Odd Thomas Book Club featuring new "old" stories monthly I would subscribe to that.
