About this listen

A young wife and mother - new to this town and to its secrets - learns just how much she doesn’t know in this tingly tale of all the things hiding in the dark at the top of the stairs, from bestselling author Brandi Reeds.

While renovating her Victorian home, Ana Clementine finds an ornate door buried under forty years of earth. Once she restores it to the attic, she starts hearing whispers, her loving husband has become a stranger, and her baby daughter learns a chilling new word. Maybe Ana has unlocked the house’s secrets. Or maybe she’s becoming just a little unhinged herself.

Brandi Reeds’s Oak Avenue is part of Dark Corners, a collection of seven heart-stopping short stories by bestselling authors who give you so many new reasons to be afraid. Each story can be read in a single sitting. Or, if you have the nerve, you can listen all by yourself in the dark.

This is a very good short story and really should be a full novel. The end begs to be continued. It has every thing a horror story should have....ghosts, an attic, even a wizened old crone.

Should be a full book.

Enjoyed the story very much. The perfect amount of unexplained supernatural. I recommend for a quick listen.

I had read a Brandi Reeds book in the past and it was excellent, this was ok, would not really recommend though.

Alright

The story is good. The narration is decent except when the narrator tries to mimic a man’s voice. For some reason she slows her pronunciation down. The male voices sound perpetually sleepy or dim witted.

It drove me crazy. I’ve really enjoyed all the new collections of stories on Prime reading but the narrator for this collection just irked me.

I’m going to stop listening and just read the rest of this collection of stories.

It’s the narration...

I don’t know if it needed more time to really finish the story or Just a better ending. Really annoyed I wasted time on this pointless cliffhanger!!!.

More time maybe?

Oak Avenue by Brandi Feeds is a scary haunting of a small family that buys and old house in the husband's home town. All the small town people know the husband but seem to despise the wife for being an outsider. The longer they stay there, the stranger the husband gets...The house also has a mind of it's own too! Creepy!

Creepy haunting!

I didn't make it far. The narrator did nothing for the story or characters. I put it down and will read it at another time.

I didn't care for the narrator

Oak Avenue is definitely a book with many twist and turns that will give any same person nightmares. The story may be short but it is fast paced and well written. I can't wait to hear/read more from this author. I highly recommend this book.

The tone of the story was set-up nicely, but I rapidly lost interest during the second half. The narrator did a fine job with what she had to work with.

The not-so scary door
