Love this series

What a great read. Only complaint would be that the entire series is not yet on Audible.

Just keeps getting better!

This book and series is so well written and fast paced it is great for zombie lovers but also for those that just love action in general. With everything the group must deal with in a zombie apocalypse but throw a massive fire at them and you get one exciting and intense heart pumping story. This one got a little heavier with the actions of the bad guys but that just makes it more fun to root for their demise. I am so invested in the characters, I find myself holding my breath and worrying about their fate. There is also a nice little surprise at the end.

Good, but standard zombie book

There is a "TLDR" at the bottom, but I want to give a little bit longer review on this, but it's not crazy long, and it might help you decide whether this is the book for you.

Pretty much EVERYTHING has been done in this genre. Those of us who love zombie stuff understand this, as long as it's well written, entertaining, and tries to give it their own personal, unique perspective, we're usually happy. If you're looking for a completely new take on the zombie apocalypse, if you're looking for something that's never been done before, if you think every book in the VERY well trodden zombie genre needs to be groundbreaking and change how we think about said genre.. this book is not for you. Also.. I bet you're lots of fun at parties, and SUPER fun to watch movies with. lol.

Even though there's nothing very new or groundbreaking, (though the last chapter of the book has me wondering if that might change in the next book), I was still entertained. I enjoyed having things come from the, (horrible), perspective of the antagonists at points, that was actually something I don't see super often in zombie books, so this wasn't a completely run of the mill zombie book. I will say that, even though there are a lot of tropes, (which I think is kind of unavoidable at this point, no shade to the writer about that), it's written well enough and exciting enough that it doesn't make you want to roll your eyes when you come across a trope you've seen hundreds of times before. You probably wouldn't be reading a zombie book if that was an issue for you anyways, there's not a lot of new ground you CAN break with the genre. I will ALSO say that I haven't consumed much zombie content that had a huge firestorm as part of the obstacles the characters need to overcome, and there's a couple other little interesting things that I haven't seen a ton. So kudos to the writer for using that as a plot device, it actually works.
I'm eternally grateful that we don't have romance taking over half the book, you know certain characters have feelings for each other, but they're too busy thinking about survival, it's great that the writer didn't try to shoe horn in romance that wouldn't be believable considering what these people are going through.
I think the action sequences are done really well, very descriptive, but not to the point of being ridiculous and boring the pants off me while I learn what color socks every zombie is wearing while they swarm and how many times they blink while they're trying to bite. Some of the descriptions of violence or injury/death were pretty brutal, especially when happening to one of the seriously messed up antagonists, but it was somehow kind of satisfying because it's happening to someone who completely deserved that or worse. they were getting their karma and you get a very good description of it. lol. During fight scenes, or other action, I was actually very enthralled, eyes glued to the page, (or ears glued to the..? Narrator? I don't know, lol, hopefully you know what I mean. I both listen to these books on audible and read them on Kindle depending on the situation I'm in and whether I have earbuds), even found myself holding my breath a couple times. That's not common for me, unless I'm very very focused on the story, (difficult to do for someone with ADHD), and very invested in the well-being of the character and the outcome said character will have to deal with, while also needing to know !RIGHT NOW! what's going to happen so bad that.. Wow! I suddenly realize I'm holding my breath.

TLDR: we're not doing a lot that's outside the zombie box here, which is fine if you're a fan of the zombie genre. There's pretty much always something happening, so not a lot of slow moments for a ton of character development, but just enough that you become invested in what happens to them. Pretty entertaining, and I like the main character, (Nurse Alyssa is a little kick-ass baddie, but not in an obnoxious way, cuz she's also a kind and caring individual), I don't dislike any of the group, and I find it refreshing that, even though you know people have feelings for each other, it isn't taking over the story at all.
Also.. we need WAY more of her cat Archer and his nemesis, Sh*thead the dog!! A LOT MORE!! :) lol
