About this listen

What do we learn from St. Joseph?

Saint Joseph teaches us virtue, especially practicing patience and silence, which is very hard to do. Saint Joseph is always calm, always peaceful. He is a great model for interior life. He was in a constant state of communion with God, something we should all imitate. His work was his prayer and his prayer was his work.

St. Joseph is a powerful patron. He is, as John Paul II called him, the Guardian of the Redeemer. He humbly accepted his role as guardian, husband and father in the Holy Family. Therefore, St. Joseph’s intercession has been sought for centuries. St. Joseph was clearly very close to Our Lord and so we come to him with this novena with a sense of humility because of his great humility.

Novena Meditations on St. Joseph, the protector of the family and the Universal Church will bring you closer to Our Lady and to Our Lord through St. Joseph’s intercession. Let us, while we enjoy good health, never forget to pray daily to the Blessed Virgin, ‘Pray for us now and at the hour of our death,’ and to St Joseph, the patron of a happy death, for the grace to die a holy death.

The person who consecrates himself to St. Joseph wants to be as close to their spiritual father as possible, to the point of resembling him in virtue and holiness. Saint Joseph, in turn, will give those consecrated to him his undivided attention, protection, and guidance.

There are actually a few different feast days for Saint Joseph, but March 19th has been most celebrated as his feast day in Western Christianity. But of course, you can pray a novena to him anytime.
